blaspheming Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 For those of you attending MPSA in April, where are you staying? My program doesn't have money for me to go, but I'd like to be able to present my paper. Any thoughts on something cheaper within walking distance to the venue?
RWBG Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 There are some decent looking hostels in the area around the hotel. I don't remember which ones specifically looked good, though.
catchermiscount Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 You can also stay further away and take advantage of the L. It kind of redefines "walking distance," but at least you won't be driving drunk.
grantman Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Priceline has a nice map feature which places the hotels in Chicago. It should be useful when finding a nice inexpensive hotel for your stay. Trip Advisor also has a feature that allows you to do that as well, both links are pasted below. I know a place called the Silversmith Hotel is right across the street from the Palmer House. It is cheaper, but not by much. http://travelc.priceline.com/hotel/listings.do?selectedTab=2&key=gxuk2t8j&jsk=5064010a6f1410ac2012012516152866c021633883&plf=PCLN http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g35805-d111501-Reviews-The_Palmer_House_Hilton-Chicago_Illinois.html I hope this helps.
midwest513 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Yeah, depends on your price range. I am staying at the Travel Lodge down the street (still finagling people to stay w/ me). If you can't band together with someone else from your program, the MPSA Hotel forum might be helpful. The Travel Lodge is about 100$/night though...and the cheapest around the Palmer.
blaspheming Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 I'll probably end up at the Travel Lodge. Thanks for the help, everyone.

blackcoffee64 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I'll be there, I'm lucky though. The cost for the registration is only $34 for an undergraduate
grantman Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Hopefully I end up going. It's terrible having to foot the bill for this thing. Tell me about it, it is going to set me back roughly a grand for my flight and hotel accomodations.

polisciftw Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 You can also always try couchsurfing.org — it's how I found my accommodation for MPSA this year!
