liszt85 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Good luck to you all. I had planned to apply to Tufts too but then the person who I wanted to work with, Jamshed Barucha, informed me that he wasn't accepting students due to administrative workload.
LadyL Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 My view on waitlisting is that it means one of two things: 1. They have made their decisions on who they will offer admission to and none of those people happen to frequent this board 2. They are all waiting to hear about funding and don't want to offer admission to anyone yet. I've considered both theories as well. I do know at least one person who was already rejected from Tufts so it seems at least one round of rejections went out. But I wonder if they sent out acceptances, and if so how many. If it was a small number as it usually is there's a good chance those people are just not on this board.
DrErica Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 LadyL - Could you share how your friend found out they were rejected? Letter, email, online status? Also - what area did they apply to (if you know). I'm probably irritating you all by now, but as you can see I LIVE on this forum and for any updates regarding Tufts

Also - what area did they apply to (if you know). I'm probably irritating you all by now, but as you can see I LIVE on this forum and for any updates regarding Tufts Oh believe me I am well aware with the level of obsession this process engenders . Online status has not been updated to show me as waitlisted and didn't last time either, so I don't know how reliable that function is (maybe it only applies to rejections/acceptances?) The rejected applicant is a coworker I ran into in the hallway and when I mentioned my interview with Tufts she said she had already been rejected. I didn't press for any other info. She was applying for something neuropsych/neuroimaging related - not sure what profs. or what particular specialty - but I know she didn't have a ton of neuropsych experience.
DrErica Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Thanks so much for the info! I received an email from Tufts today and just about had a heart attack when I saw it! Of course when I opened it there was no useful information only "The department is completing its review of applications and decision letters will be mailed out shortly". I just hope they update the online status soon and maybe I can actually enjoy my weekend - stress free! (What a concept)
digits2006 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Hey! Im not sure if tufts has already sent out notifications.. But I had to email a Dr. Sommers (social psych) and was asking for future reference about how many students they are accepting. He said this year they are hoping to admit 3 students in the social area.
LadyL Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 Any wait listed people have any updates? I emailed the grad coordinator yesterday and asked about whether the list is ranked, how many students they hope to take off the list, if more students will be admitted based on grants getting funded, and if I can do anything to improve my chances. No reply yet.
Sunshine1018 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I went to Tufts undergrad and cannot say enough wonderful things about it. It is the most nurturing place, and all of the professors are fabulous. For those of you who applied to Dr. Sam Sommers, let me tell you, he is amazing. He was my advisor, and in addition to being hilariously funny, he was so helpful and kind. All of the faculty really do care about your development, and there is always great work being done. Additionally, Tufts is a great name. I received 11 interviews at Clinical Psychology PhD programs, and many of the POIs with whom I spoke commented on my attending Tufts. Robert Sternberg is also one of the Deans there, so many were impressed by him. I am jealous of all you future Jumbos! If Tufts had a Clinical PhD program, I'd definitely want to attend.
digits2006 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 ya i wont apply till decemeber to tufts and i wanna work with Dr. Sommers. His work on juries is awesome and I hope to do what he does. ha
Nilla Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Any wait listed people have any updates? I emailed the grad coordinator yesterday and asked about whether the list is ranked, how many students they hope to take off the list, if more students will be admitted based on grants getting funded, and if I can do anything to improve my chances. No reply yet. I received offer from another university and emailed the professor I applied to asking where I stood. He informed me the student he gave an offer to accepted, thus I was going to be rejected (his email was very nice, but that's what it boiled down to). This is the last communication I've had with Tufts, though. I haven't received anything official from them yet.
cupcake_phd Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Anything Tufts related happen to anyone lately? I saw that someone had gotten a rejection letter : ( I woefully remain on the waitlist. It certainly is coming down to the wire this year, isn't it?
Nilla Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I posted the rejection, but I was expecting it since I had heard from my prospective advisor. Good luck to the rest of you who are waiting!
jhanson28 Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I'm pretty interested in Tufts myself at the moment. Would individuals who are *ccepted be willing to post their GRE scores? I'd be interested to find out what they may be looking for (though I'm aware that a lot of other factors go into the application process too). Anyone else applying for the MA/PhD through the Eliot-Pearson department of child development?
