jywayne Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I saw where someone got a letter of rejection from Tennessee on the results board. I still haven't heard anything: what gives? I project that I'll get shot down as well thanks to an atrocious subject test score.
marlowe23 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I'm freaking out too (for the same reason--subject test). I didn't get anything either.
eatriceorgohome Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Reject here. I'm not sure exactly what it said; I'm out of town, and my folks called with the news. From what I gather it was a pretty standard rejection letter: lots of qualified applicants, accepting less grad students, department has less funding, etc. I wasn't expecting to get in, so I'm not torn up about it. Good luck to the two of you!
desaparecido Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Hey folks. I spoke to Leanne @ UT, asking about my status after I saw the UTK rejection on here. The admissions committee went through the first round and sent out rejection letters, but they're still going through more rounds before sending acceptances. I know I didn't get a rejection letter (I asked), but we'll see what happens in the coming weeks!
eatriceorgohome Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Yeah, nothing unexpected on my part. One of recommendation writers didn't send his letter in until mid-January. That combined with a pretty low GRE subject score did not bode well. Best of luck to everyone else, though - keep the faith.
marlowe23 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 Did any of you get a notification from the English department regarding the completion of your file? I checked my status online and it looked OK, and I don't want to bother them with a question like that at this busy time...
jywayne Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 Marlowe--I contacted the Grad representative back in December and she said my file was complete. Since then, I've just gotten the e-mail three times a week that says nothing since their electronic system is broken.
jywayne Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 I saw a wait list on the board today, via mail. Anybody want to claim it? Here's to hope that you'll get off the wait list, and here's to hope for everyone (I am really crossing my fingers for UTK!)
marlowe23 Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 I'm waiting to hear as well--my mail has been delayed due to a move, but I'm still hoping excited for UTK anyways!
jywayne Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 I found out that I am on the waitlist. After hearing so much "no news" for a while, I'm a bit disappointed that it wasn't instant gratification, but I'm willing to wait it out for UTK and super happy it's not an instant no. Good luck everyone!
desaparecido Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Got a wait-list letter from the fine folks at Knoxville as well. Better than nothing, though.
jywayne Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 I thought I'd write this for all you fine folks in this thread. I called UTK this morning and the grad director told me they have 55 people on their WL (I thought holy shit? Do you WL everyone?) and that I was 17th. That seems like quite a bad place to be, so I'm not going to hold out too much hope for them in the coming weeks.
eatriceorgohome Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Haha, let me assure you jywayne, not everyone gets waitlisted. (I'll keep telling myself it was a bad fit).
marlowe23 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 I'm guessing it's bad news that I haven't heard anything?
jywayne Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 I'm guessing it's bad news that I haven't heard anything? You should call Tom Haddox and find out. He was a pretty nice guy and gave me a straight answer when I inquired about the WL.
marlowe23 Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Maybe tomorrow--I just got rejected from Miami-Ohio--I know they don't take many people, and I've read everything about "fit," but it's still rough to get rejections regardless.
