  1. They sent me a reject notice today AFTER I withdrew my application. Bilious bastards.
  2. I was WLed at Tennessee where the list was 55 strong--I was 17th. Made my decision to just drop out of the race pretty easy.
  3. Of course, everyone who earns a Ph.D should seek a broad literary education, but I know that most of my scholarship centers on John Steinbeck. Nothing wrong with focusing on the author you're most interested in--so long as you realize that your author isn't Milton or Shakespeare and thus you gotta look at the whole picture.
  4. I've had a great M.A experience at Ohio University in Athens, OH. We have a lot of good folks in your field, to boot.
  5. West Virginia U, for me, Ph.D. Lots of folks there I know, and my home state to boot
  6. Very cool! I decided to accept the offer, so I'm sure we'll be meeting one another in a few months! I know the area fairly well, having a lot of friends there. You might check out Copper Beech apartments. They are a little on the expensive side, but WVU gives a fairly generous stipend, and it'd be perfect for 2 people.
  7. PS: I got the usual 340 applicants for 12 spots excuse.
  8. Thought I would write here to say I called the Department and that apparently I had been rejected a long time ago but something is screwy in their new electronic system. I don't know how that bodes for the rest of you good folks still waiting, but I'm glad I called and just ended the lost cause.
  9. I applied to Penn State two years ago. They jerked me around until something like April 18th before I ever got a rejection letter. It's against their religion to inform people one way or the other.
  10. I'm not excited about how it's turned out for me either. Just accepted to WVU, my safety school, with UVA, Purdue, and Ole Miss still in the running but unlikely. But, at least we got in somewhere and are not shut out; I'm glad for at least that. We don't have anything to complain about when our other capable colleagues might not be getting in anywhere.
  11. It's crazy that you got in to Berkeley and Michigan but not into UVA. My advisor said this is like playing the lottery...I think he's right. How did you hear?
  12. Anyone out there still waiting to hear? I am; I'm hoping that they haven't lost my application.
  13. If any of you folks want to know anything about OU's Department or Athens, feel free to message me. I'm just wrapping up my M.A there.
  14. Ole Miss is on spring break. It'll probably be a while, yet.
  15. Still nothing! I hope it means something (I can only dream) and that they're not going to the last names down to the Ys.
  16. Who posted the post about a rejection via e-mail earlier today? I wish they'd go ahead and reject me already (no reply still to my e-mail from two days ago.)
  17. You should call Tom Haddox and find out. He was a pretty nice guy and gave me a straight answer when I inquired about the WL.
  18. I too am still in the dark. I e-mailed two days ago and haven't gotten a response yet.
  19. I'm not one of them. It's pretty much the only place I'm taking seriously that's left on my list.
  20. Congrats all! I thought about applying to UK but was broke during the application season. They have a fine program.
  21. That's exactly what I was thinking. It's bad enough being 17th on the list; I couldn't imagine having a WL notification and having hope and being down in the 40s somewhere. Why not just send out rejections when it's that obvious that they won't go down that far?
  22. Unfortunately, I think it's the end of me at the Univ. of Tennessee. They have a wait list of 55 people, and I'm 17. No amount of kissing up or political prodding can get me bumped up from that.
  23. I thought I'd write this for all you fine folks in this thread. I called UTK this morning and the grad director told me they have 55 people on their WL (I thought holy shit? Do you WL everyone?) and that I was 17th. That seems like quite a bad place to be, so I'm not going to hold out too much hope for them in the coming weeks.
  24. I'm in the same as you guys. It won't hit me too hard when I get the inevitable rejection. But, I do love UVA and the surrounding area a lot, so it'll be disappointing to say the least.
