I was already having a bad Monday...everything kept reinforcing my perceptions of my own mediocrity (i.e. going just a hair worse than I was hoping they would). And now this. If Michigan hates me, too, I'm going to spiral into a deep, dark depression. And my trusty bar isn't open on Monday nights... :(

Ugh. I too was already having a horrible Monday, complete with getting yelled at via email by a parent about their kid's grade (I teach high school English). More than ever I needed to either hear something good from PhD programs (to comfort me that I won't be teaching at this level forever), or hear NOTHING AT ALL. Blah.

I applied to the joint PhD in English and Women's Studies though, so I'm going to pretend that's on a slightly different timeline...

Seriously crazy...I just got my acceptance email about half an hour after starting this thread. Ahh! My funding package is not nearly as generous as the other poster--$18,000 for the first year. Good luck to everyone else!! It seems like they are sending (at least some) acceptances out this afternoon.

Blah. I have a bad feeling about this. There are already quite a few acceptances up on the board. I want to go cry now.

Yeah but you got into Indiana, which is a freaking GREAT program. :) So don't let Michigan get you down. Who needs 'em?

I concur. Strike 1 of 9 it seems here.

Easy for you to say, Trip, with your bajillion acceptances. B)

Funding is still up in the air for IU, though, so I'm still having horror visions that I'll just get into this one program and then not be able to pay for it.

Oh, Boy. Has anyone checked the online app? Can you tell if anything has changed in your account?

I checked the online account. Nothing. I'm not even sure where the decision will show up!

Yeah, I'm supposed to get funding info for CUNY this week and my TAship interview for Amherst is later in the month... I know how you feel. Nervous... cannot incur more student loan debt at this point. Still, really, Indiana is great. My advisor went there.

I do hope there is a different timeline! I applied as well. I also have no idea how to work the U-Mich website, so I (luckily) can't check online like a crazy person.

I've been lurking for a while, punishing myself with speculation, but I had to start posting on this thread!

Michigan is my top choice, as well. I've applied for the Women's Studies/English joint PhD. Does anybody know if this track is on a different timeline than the regular acceptances? Has anybody emailed anyone in the program?

Best of luck to all!

Welp, there goes my top choice.

Does anyone else feel embarrassed for earnestly applying to top-notch schools like Michigan and actually thinking you had a shot? Even though it was an absolutely perfect fit, I guess I just can't compete with the big boys.

I actually did email the Women's Studies graduate admissions director last week, and she said they'd be sending out decisions this week. So...I'm not sure if that means they've already gone out or not! I'm hoping not, obviously... I'm also not pleased that they use snail mail for rejections, which means it takes that much longer to know for sure.

Best of luck to you too!

I feel exactly that way. I wish I'd have saved my hundred bucks by the time it was all said and done and not even bothered to try there.

I concur. I'm batting 0/5.

Two of my letter writers went there, and I have a friend there now. I've heard nothing but amazing things about the program. I'm just super nervous to get excited about the program until I have another acceptance in hand OR funding set in stone. Until then, I'll continue to be a nervous wreck....

Well, the implicit rejection is a bit more of a blow than I expected. Somebody tell me my chances weren't killed simply b/c I somehow called U-M "Michigan State" in the SOP. Please?
