cokohlik Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) I just received an email from my POI at one of the Master's programs I applied to asking if I received an email from their online system this afternoon and to please let her know. It just so happens that I didn't receive an email from their online system, ... but ... I'm guessing that the personal email means good news? Pretty darn excited to see what her reply will be. I replied 10 minutes after she sent the email (thank you, AT&T 3G) and am now waiting patiently. Edit to say that I checked my application status after receiving her email and it remained unchanged. Weird? I also hope this email is a good sign for the rest of the programs I applied to. See, programs, if you email me I will email you right back! Edited February 17, 2012 by cokohlik
newms Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 It's almost certainly good news. Fingers crossed for you!
cokohlik Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Squeee!! ! Thank you! I'm glued to my monitor... except now my POI is probably at dinner or sleeping because that's what has to happen with suspense - it has to be prolonged for as long as possible.
cokohlik Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 I'M IN!! "Just so you know, it's going to be good news." I feel like I'm dreaming... Hehehehe! I'm still waiting to hear back from PhD programs, but man this is a great end to what was a really, really crappy day.
cokohlik Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Oh wait, I guess "good news" can also be a wait list... Nahhh...
amrodri5 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 lol thats awful, she said good news not "neutral" news, and i didnt know they wait listed for masters programs.... =D

I guess I'll find out tomorrow. She said that's when "the email" will come, so... I guess I still should be nervous because if there's no funding in that email (if it's an acceptance), then an acceptance sans funding is a rejection in my book since I can't afford to go without funding. Hurry up, tomorrow! I'm starting to get nervousssssss.

Hurry up, tomorrow! I'm starting to get nervousssssss. That's pretty much how I feel about universities in New York. High tuition + high cost of living = Eating ramen at every meal and sharing a room. I need my privacy and small luxuries, thank you. All I ask is enough so I can have my own bedroom and money to explore one of the greatest cities in the world.

I really doubt a prof would tell you that its going to be good news and its really a waitlist.

I'd really like to think East Coast schools will be starting to email out today since it's 12:30pm there... heh, heh.
cokohlik Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 So... not an acceptance. I'm on the shortlist and my POI wants to set up a time to speak to me. Funny thing is, we already spoke. I guess more people will be on the call? I dunno, it's going to be over the weekend. Slightly bummed that it isn't a solid acceptance.

That wasn't very nice of her to only tell you that it was good news and to leave you hanging like that. The shortlist is better than the waitlist, and hopefully it's a very short list and you'll be accepted. Just try not to be too disappointed and give the interview your best shot over the weekend. Perhaps the call will be with more people, or perhaps the POI just has a few more questions. Maybe she'll be gauging your interest in attending - in some situations schools give acceptances to people they think are likely to accept, so they could be trying to see how likely you are to accept their admit. That's just speculation on my part, but in any case, let them know that you are still very interested in that school (assuming you are). Good luck on the interview!

I am interested in the program. It's a strong program with decent library resources and what I assume will be decent funding based on the website. I also know and like the campus and the university system. I'll give it my best shot. The trickiest part will be answering any questions pertaining to my future plans without making it seem like I don't want to go there (because I do!) I'll post an update here after the interview letting you know how it went I've spoken to her in the past and she's really nice. I'm so curious to know if it'll be just us talking.
