  1. if i get one more flat white envelope from aphl im going to flip out. =) laaaame
  2. So I joined Tulane's admission facebook page, and I noticed that they posted a list of places from where different admitted students are from this year to show I guess that people apply from all over the u.s. The first one listed is albuquerque where I'm currently living. so mentioned it to a co-worker who is a tulane grad alum, and i asked her what were the chances that was me and she said: "pretty good, everytime i say something about tulane here people ask me if its an international school" win!!! lol
  3. Blaaaaah my app is still in committeeeee

  4. lol thats awful, she said good news not "neutral" news, and i didnt know they wait listed for masters programs.... =D
  5. omg wonder awesomeness!!!!
  6. So I finally called Tulane's SPHTM about my program. My application is under review by committee. So thats good right? They didn't take one look at my GRE and weed me out... There were only 50 applicants for trop med, and decisions might be out in the next few weeks. Hmm wouldnt it be funny if i got in.. ;)

  7. gaaah is there seriously no one else thats applied to a phd program at Tulane's SPHTM?

  8. Good Day: "Excellent LORs with two being from experts in her field, good gpa, good solid work experience, hell of an SOP! Hmm master's project done internationally involving facilitating a community intervention project, setting up her own temp. lab ,and heading a team for fieldwork and sample collections all while doing the majority of the translating??? Very impressive! Recipient of an aphl/cdc eid fellowship as well! Granted very poor gre score and no publications. Luckily we look at entire applications before we make any decisions because sometimes scores does not guarantee a persons ability to perform the actual work." Bad Day: "Holy hell is that a 1000 on her gre (old scoring)?????? UNCLEAN UNCLEAN, BURN THIS APPLICATION AND GET ME SOME BLEACH SOLUTION FOR MY HANDS, STAT!!!" That score is after 3 retakes, multiple study books and one hell of a prep course. I am just not a standardized test taker, and have always had to supplement with experience and grades. blaaah. it helped with getting into my MPH programs but phds are such a different game.. lol good luck to everyone!
  9. I recently graduated with my MPH from USF, and I came into the program with almost zero experience. I had 2 months interning with Miami-Dade Area Health Education Center, but my concentration was in global communicable disease so it might as well not have counted. Regardless, I got into USF and GWU with the absolute minimum GRE and GPA. I think sometimes your SOP and LOR speak loudly about your capabilities. While I was in the program I gained all sorts of experience including conducting research internationally. But Biz is right, you should definitely check and see if the schools you want to apply to have requirements as far as experience goes, all schools are different. Good luck, and don't let your lack of experience keep you from applying. P.S. USF has dual MPH/MA in anthropology for a bunch of their concentrations! Just in case your interested!
  10. Hey everyone! I see many Tulane applicants for PhDs in epi and community health. Is anyone going for their PhD in Trop Med/Parasit? And if so has anyone heard back yet?
