Admission letter says "entrance fellowship". No funding?

Got an admission letter (yes!) from UBC - one of my top choices. It states an "entrance fellowship". The amount covers exactly tuition and fees for 1st year. So... basically, I got no funding, right?

It doesn't say anything about covering tuition and fees nor about a stipend, so I guess it's a one-time payment. Which means I can't afford to go... maybe...

It's still considered funding because in Canada all students pay tuition, whether you have funding to cover it or not. But it seems you only got enough funding to cover tuition. You usually get your basic offer of funding (we don't really call it stipend now that I think of it). Do you know if they will consider you for a TAship or RAship? It might help.

Oh my God! You got an admission letter from UBC? Congratulations, I obtained my MA degree from there, funding opportunities are very generous, If I were you I would never hesitate. You can get many intensive funding after first year.

Which program did you apply for?

The Four Year Doctoral Fellowship (4YF) program will ensure UBC's best PhD students are provided with financial support of at least $16,000 per year plus tuition for the first four years of their PhD studies. This program allows UBC to continue to attract and support outstanding domestic and international PhD students, and provide those students with stable, base-level funding for the first four years of their PhD studies and research.

Annual Value: $18,000 stipend (effective May 1, 2012) plus full tuition coverage

Award Status: Active

Deadline:

Check with prospective graduate program.

It can be prolonged! so 18.000 CAD plus full tuition coverage is wonderful. If there will be TAship you may earn 10K CAD more and this is wonderful. I will also apply for UBC's PhD next year, although I got my MA degree from there, I went to Brussels for PhD but I am not happy here, UBC was a wonderful place.
