Hi everyone,

Does anyone have information on USC. Have acceptance gone out? Are they still figuring out funding?

Check out the acceptances/rejections/decisions forum for information about USC - I'm pretty sure acceptances have been sent.

Hi ah2191. I couldn't find the info about SC. Could you quote it into this forum?

b/c I called USC yesterday, and they will be notifying students in 1-2 weeks.

I don't know if it helps or hurts, but I have it on good info (personal contact in the SOC dept) that USC has made it's choices and is busy setting up funding for the 10 people they accepted this year! It's more acceptances than in the last couple of years, so good luck all! :)

On the USC front, does that mean that they've notified people already? Or are they securing funding before letting anybody know? I like USC a lot, so if you could answer this I'd appreciate it.

They wait to secure funding. Shouldn't be too long now though! :)

Wow...only 10 people were accepted to USC? Does anybody know how many people applied?

Is USC planning on like 3 people matriculating?

I think USC generally has small cohorts of 4-5... I heard though that they have really great funding, between $22-30K. I didn't hear many on the forum apply though - does wannabeaphd want to fill us in on who/how they know someone in the department? maybe start a USC thread?

Hi all, sorry for the cloak and dagger. My partner is in the program at USC so I have a bit of an inside track there. Also, for the record, I'm in education, not Soc, but I wanted to give you all an update, since I have some info! I'd want someone to do the same for me.

USC usually does have small cohorts of 3-5, but this year they've decided to admit 10 people. Not all of those will go of course, but they are shooting for a larger cohort this year. Basically I just wanted to let you all know that they've selected a large cohort, so more people than usual will be recieving offers, and that the letters should go out soon because all they need to do now is secure funding for all of the admitted students. Btw, the funding is spectacular there, if it's anything like what was offered to the students last year!

This was the conversation about USC on the acceptances/rejections/decisions forum. I know that some unofficial acceptance emails have been sent, but I don't know if all have. There is also a tentative visitation day scheduled for March 26th.

Hi ah2191. Thank so much for the email. I'm sorry to be nosy but how did you hear about the acceptance emails? And a visitation day set already? This is so tragic!

A friend of mine received an email from a POI informing her of the tentative visitation day. I don't think she's received funding info yet, but I'm not sure. She's not on GradCafe and I don't know more details, sorry.

Looks like you've already been accepted to UCB, UCLA, and UCI - all very highly ranked programs. Is there a particular reason you're so interested in USC?

Is there anyone else out there who has heard nothing from USC? I assumed 3-4 weeks ago that I was rejected, but I just find it bizarre that I still have heard nothing. Emails to the department have gone unanswered. Anyone else in this same boat?

Forgot to mention what reminded me to even post this question...I got an email this morning reminding me about financial aid deadlines. What? So confused.

Hi all - I am currently deciding on my offer from USC or not. USC is a great program - fantastic faculty, world class resources and amazing funding. I have some other offers though that I may be more interested in. So the deal with USC is that they are a very small program - as they aim for cohorts between 2-4 people. I believe they have admitted 6-7 already but have only secured funding for 4-5 maybe? This is what was inferred when I visited.

I am really torn about the program - it is a really amazing one but I have some other offers that I may take instead. It may be a situation where they have spots that open up close to or after the 15th. I will do my best to decide soon if I definitely won't go so they can admit someone else instead. Good luck everyone!
