The silence was finally broken today. Two admits! My first and second choices- full funding for second choice, 1/2 tuition scholarship for first choice. i am astounded.

Wow, congratulations! That's fantastic.

Also, there's a bar here with your name. ;)

Thanks for all the congrats, everyone. And also- thanks for keeping me semi-sane during this process. I hope you all have immense good luck with your schools.

Only one more week and we will be at the middle of March. Something about that is scary. I've been trying not to check my application statuses.

I try to think about how busy my current professors are with midterms and writing letters and going to meetings and holding office hours, and then I try to think when they would be able to fit in reading writing samples and applications and stuff... That at least comforts me enough not to think that my application isnt sitting in a pile of trash being ignored. These guys are busy. Just gotta relax a bit...

I just talked to my number one Choice, they STARTED looking at applications Yesterday. Applications were due January 15th. I had convinced myself I hadn't even gotten an interview and was pretty upset. So calm down out there everybody, I think this year is just a bit slower than previous seasons. Good luck and stay sane.

So between that and the info WeRegretToInformYou got that one of their depts only recently got funding info, I'm feeling better about now hearing anything as of yet. Great news actually.

The silence has finally been broken by three rejections in <24 hours. Yeowch.

I'm so sorry! I know how it feels, On 15th february I got two rejections in a matter of 5 hours! I was completely shocked and then lost! But, There is still hope I guess, but Let's keep strong (though really hard fro me) THe Last news MAY be the BEST NEWS!

Thanks for your kind words! I'm not as upset as I thought I'd be, but definitely disappointed. Looking forward to hearing something from the 3 schools I still haven't heard from.

In the "for what it's worth department," when I was waiting to hear from Master's programs it took them until late April to make decisions, because they always make decisions on PhDs first. Now that I'm applying for PhD programs, I'm finding out that the wait time isn't much better. I contacted my top choice school and they said I should expect to hear from them by Mid-March even though *multiple* people have already been either accepted or rejected. Same thing with my second choice.

Oftentimes when a school does not contact you, and you see other people have received both positive and negative results, it means that you have been "secretly waitlisted." Many top schools will not bother to notify you of this status unless you contact them directly. I applied to a total of seven schools. My current status is accepted to a very high ranking program that was in my "mid-range," rejected at a second program in my mid-range, wait-listed at my third choice and on the "silent" wait list at my top two (meaning I had to call to find out). The bottom two (which include the school I currently attend) haven't even *started* the process yet. So, the bottom line is that no news is good news. It means they aren't willing to let you go quite yet.

If you *do* find out you've been waitlisted, consider sending a letter thanking the school for continuing to consider you and letting them know any new achievements you've made since your application was sent out. Remind them why you're such a good fit, etc. Think of it as a second, revised letter of intent. Also, consider sending an additional letter of recommendation that helps to flesh out your qualifications. Do NOT do this if you have been directly forbidden (obviously); however, in all other cases my professors tell me it helps to remind the school of your dedication, etc.

Best of luck everyone!

Still waiting on all three of the schools I want to go to...... I got a letter from one today which made me panic as the envelope was really thin but it simply said they had received my completed application! Now I can REALLY start stressing..... I'm really really really hoping to hear something positive by the end of this month!!
