Anyone heard from UCLA Social Science and Comparative Education yet?

I applied to the doctoral program in SSCE at UCLA and called the administrative assistant today. They mentioned that letters should have gone out last week. She did not seem super confident and encouraged me to call the graduate advisor for the program.

Before I start to worry about not having a letter, I was wondering if anyone here has received one?

yoteach,

Not that I've been to the mailbox today, but I've not heard anything yet.

There is a thread called 'UC Schools' that has info on all the UC's, you might

look through there as well.

Take care,

c.o.

Yeah, there was a bunch of speculation about UCLA on the UC Scools thread... But I haven't heard anything from them either. Not sure if I should give up on UCLA or just keep waiting.

FWIW, you can check out the Application Status page on the UCLA website to see of they've taken action on your app yet.

thanks criticalontology and fidelio...can you tell me where i can find the application status page on ucla's website?

I found it..."To date, no decision has been made on your application."

I guess this is still good news?

I still haven't found other SSCE applicants, so it might be too soon to tell.

However, I would like to know whether or not the letters were actually sent out.

Hmmm....

I also applied for the SSCE PhD and spoke to a guy from the Office of Student Services on Tuesday, who informed me that the committee had just started to sift through applications and we wouldn't be hearing for another couple of weeks. He was really friendly and re-assuring.

Anyway, fingers crossed!

Just spoke with the actual graduate advisor for the program.

I asked when I could expect to hear about their decision and she very quickly said, "next week."

I felt a little guilty for probing further, but I did ask if I could expect an email or USPS and she said both.

Soooo, not sure what this means although I tend to think it's not necessarily good.

It's purely speculative on my part, but it seems that mass messages are not typically how departments inform folks that they've been accepted : (

It sure would be great to know if anyone has actually recieved a letter of acceptance. If not, it seems like we're all still in the running!

Wow, yoteach, thanks for calling and posting! That's really one for the team. I also applied to SSCE but haven't heard a peep. Next week it is.

i got in for the PhD program, but it's not the same one you applied to. different programs meet at different times and mine was just more on top of i guess.

keepswimming did you apply to phd or masters? Have you heard anything yet?

Got my rejection letter this morning! :(

Same here my friend. Best of luck.

Bummer. :( Good luck with your other schools.

Was it an email or post? I just checked my status online and it still says that my decision is not available yet. :/

Have not heard anything personally from the department BUT just got an email tonight from the Director of Student Services congratulating me on my admission and inviting me to an orientation.

No interview or phone call.

Online decision status still says "No decision has been made."

Has anyone else received something similar? I am just hoping this is the real thing. It just seems odd though.

Thanks.

I didn't get anything at all. That's strange that your status hasn't changed. I hope it's good news though!!!!!!!

Crossing my fingers for you!

It took a while for my status to change after I was called by the department (nearly 3 weeks)

Future Ed,

Application was for PhD. I am going to call the school and clear things up. I will be absolutely thrilled if I have been accepted, it just seems odd there has been no other contact or "official" letter of acceptance with funding/ no funding. But again... would be exciting!!!

fritz,

i received a similar email from the advisor. not sure why i haven't heard from the department, but am glad to know others have received this oddly timed message...seems like it is less likely to be a mistake.

my status has not changed from "no decision has been made on your application" either.

fritz, i'm an accepted phd student and i would say it is HIGHLY likely that you got in. i received a phone call from my advisor in late january and didn't receive anything official (email and snail-mail packet until last week--a whole month later). my status on the web is still unchanged.

i hope you receive good news!
