VicariouslyWaiting Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 So its nearing the end of February and still...no word. My application status still reads as "under review." So I've gotta ask...is there any chance that I could still hear something in the first two weeks of March? I know panicking is sort of the standard around here and my case isn't exactly special...but I'd love to hear something from anyone who knows. Regardless of whether the words are a mercy killing or words of encouragement, I'll take anything at this point. UCI kids or people who have received acceptance here before please help me out! vvvee and habanero 1 1
Semester Photon Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) Well, I also applied to UCI. I don't know anything about their Cognitive Neuroscience program, but I applied to their math program and I haven't heard anything yet. From the look of the results page, the math program admits people between the beginning of March and mid -April. (The deadline for math was Jan. 30). It's more than possible that you could hear something in the beginning of March, but it's also possible that you won't. UCI seems to have really spread out admissions in general. okayandgo Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 A friend of mine got into their Physics PhD program the first or second week of February if not even earlier. I believe he was a very, very strong candidate. I have not head back from the Stats department yet.
VicariouslyWaiting Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 Thanks for your replies guys. It makes me feel a bit better that I'm not the only one sweating it big time. I've already received four rejections and truly it feels as if though my last hopes are riding on UC Irvine. I have a masters program to fall back on, but still...increased debt and adding two years total to the entire Ph.D earning experience doesn't sound so great. Its just a big feeling of desperation and a fear of the unknown I suppose...
habanero Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Also, visiting week is in the middle of March. I hope this news is good for you.
vvvee Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 I haven't received the official letter from UCI but my professor told me that if you receive the invitation for the visitation day means you are in. Hope this helps.
VicariouslyWaiting Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 Thanks for all of your replies guys. I'm not sure how to take your info though. Today is February 28 and everything is still dead silent. I checked out the results page and a bunch of rejections were handed out...but I've still heard nothing. All I know for sure is the silence is killing me.
spark1989 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I haven't heard anything, not that I care now. POI did say that he'll take a closer look at my app, but no response afterwards.
womp Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Got accepted on March 1st with a letter dated Feb. 29th. Never heard anything about visitation day, though. Maybe that's only for the science departments?
daeman23 Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I was told Stats just made their decisions last week. CS will be a little bit later as there were some mix up with the electronic transcripts reporting methods. They (the profs) were going off of scans of paper transcripts versus the usual eletronic transcripts. This was on 3/21/2012.
Mithra Sethi Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 I have applied to UCI in computer science. On Feb 1st 2012, my application status changed to under review..but till today march 28th..the status is still under review. I am tensed now..since out of 6 applied schools, already University of California Riverside rejected my application. I think, if I did not make it into UCR..then they are no hopes of making into UCI...pls anyone who have not heard from UCI..do respond to my mail. I think..my application is in rejection list.. :-(
