MarketingPhD2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Do any schools extend an offer of admission to students without conducting an interview? The way I see it, if I receive an email from a school that I haven't interviewed with...AUTOMATIC REJECTION!!! What do you all think?
MediaMom Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 It depends on the program and the field you're in. Many programs don't even hold interviews. I've gotten two acceptances and haven't been interviewed anywhere. Good luck!
bluetubeodyssey Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I was also accepted into two programs without an interview. A lot of schools in my field do hold interviews, but not all of them.
MarketingPhD2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Author Posted March 2, 2012 I am trying to get into a Marketing PhD program in Business School. Not sure, but I think most Business Schools do an interview. I could be wrong though. I have had one Skype interview with UTSA, but I didn't make the cut. Continuing to wait to hear from my other 7 choices. We will see what happens!!!
LabRat2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I got accepted to a school without an interview, but I also had introduced myself to the POI a year before I applied AND had brief e-mail exchange with him a few times. Another friend of mine had the same situation. Personally, I'd rather get accepted without interviews, because interviews are AWFUL! I always do well (I do stand-up as a hobby, so I'm good with speaking) but I am a nervous-f*ing-wreck the whole week and I don't know if I can handle anymore stress about this!
guttata Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Add me to the list of 2 acceptances without formal/on-campus interviews. I did, however, meet almost all of my POIs and have informal interviews with them during a national conference in January.
contiguous Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 accepted without an interviews.... it still weirds me out that a program would offer funding to people without speaking with them first!
LabRat2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Speaking of, Indiana University (for my program) doesn't do interviews at all. They do it old school.
nari27 Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I got accepted into a program without an interview, and without having contacted a POI.
StephanieJ Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I've been accepted to five programs without an interivew.
snes Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Yes. You can even get an offer without an interview to a program that conducts interviews. It's happened!
sweetnighter Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Depends on the field. In psych, interviews are pretty common. In other social sciences, they are a little less common. But I only know the social sciences...
watson Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Depends. In social psych interviews are definitely becoming more and more common. That said they still tend to be pretty informal, and not everyone does them (they have a more 'admitted students' recruitment day). OSU is one of the top schools in our field and they do acceptances without interview (I was told I was accepted over the phone). NU did acceptances without interviews until about 5-6 years ago when a weirdo got admitted (thankfully turned down the offer) so we switched to the interview model.
LaBrunaFurba Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 One school I applied to conducted interviews. I assumed I was rejected because I wasn't contacted for an interview. Imagine my surprise when my acceptance letter came in the mail.
