  1. Looking for a 2 bedroom in Oak Park/Forest Park/River Forest, convenient to both Metra & blue line. Message me with any leads!
  2. One school I applied to conducted interviews. I assumed I was rejected because I wasn't contacted for an interview. Imagine my surprise when my acceptance letter came in the mail.
  3. Undergrad GPA: 3.3 Poor GRE scores. Retook GRE. Scored lower. (WUT.) But! I survived the application season and have accepted an offer of admission, with funding! I had four offers and was considered for three fellowships. I'm here to tell you that it's more than just a numbers game!
  4. I got tired of people acting so aghast that my partner was willing to make the move with me. "Are you sure he wants to do that? What about his job? Does he want you to go so far?" As though we hadn't discussed these things prior to applying. ...perhaps people aren't used to a marriage with good communication and mutual support?
  5. Brancan- I had a program I really like give me a courtesy deadline. I've heard from all programs, still waiting on funding from one. I plan to tell them that I am strongly considering their program, but I don't feel comfortable making a decision until I hear from all schools regarding funding. I also plan to include any outcomes that would affect my decision to attend that school (e.g. a giant fellowship offer from another program).
  6. THIS. Now that I've heard from Madison (whomp whomp), I can make a decision. So, thanks for the rejection, Badgers, but it's working out in my favor!
  7. @reterik - I have a significant other, too, and that's been a challenge to throw into the mix, albeit a welcome one. We've made plans to sit down with a few cocktails once I hear from all programs to make the final decision together. I think going on visits will be extremely beneficial for you. My visits certainly have been.
  8. There was some mention of starting a new thread for those of us with several offers to discuss the process of weighing our decisions. So here it is! What offers are you considering? Have you made a decision? What factors are important to you in a program? Are there extenuating circumstances that will influence your choice? When will you commit? Any advice? For me, I have heard from all but one program, and that program is a big one. I am very excited about one of my offers and would love to say YES! to them, but feel as though I can't until I hear back from all my schools.
  9. Beware the ides of March.
  10. $10 to Houlihan's. I'll chalk it up as a win.
  11. Yes, and they also monitor these forums. Just be smart. You're not as anonymous as you think.
  12. One of my acceptance letters mistakenly said I'd been admitted to the MA program when it was supposed to be an acceptance to the PhD program. This process is killing me dead.
  13. This thread has given me the greatest joy. Grandma, in a reply to my mom's facebook status* about my second acceptance: "I'm sure there will be many more to come! But I'm still holding out for [my top choice/her alma mater]!" I don't have the heart to tell her that my top choice was also my first rejection. *My mom + Facebook = EVERYTHING IS BROADCASTED ALL THE TIME DEAR GOD MAKE IT STOP
  14. Yup, got mine in the mail on Saturday. The least they could have done was proofread their form letters... As for UW, I think each area is going at their own speed. I believe the Media area has made offers, but I'm not sure about the others.
