  1. My sig. other applied to NYU's Cognition and Perception Doctoral Program, which technically falls under Psychology but SO's focus is on cognitive neuro mixed with linguistics. POI is in the dept. of linguistics. Has anyone out there heard back from this program?
  2. I was accepted to the dual-degree arts admin & art history program and received zero financial aid, and the fin. aid officer I spoke to wasn't optimistic about TA-ships. The cost was too high, considering I had funding elsewhere. Would have loved to be in Chicago though
  3. It helped me - certain professors were very enthusiastic about my research interests, and several that I later met in person referenced them positively. If they don't respond, don't bug them further. But I don't think it hurts as long as it is diplomatic.
  4. I think October-November is better - wouldnt it make sense for your contact with them to be closer to the time they'll be reading your app? I contacted them in November
  5. I am also in this situation of possibly needing to pull out of a partially-funded offer due to a variety of reasons (but NOT going to another school) and would be very interested in hearing what people say.
  6. Anyone waiting on McGill's neuroscience program? Sig. other received email from professor expressing interest in taking him on as a student, although he's received nothing indicating acceptance
  7. I'm actually unsure of their concentration. Either way they've only had nice things to say about the program, and I've enjoyed Pitt. Madison is also a great program and a fun town, so you're set no matter where you end up choosing
  8. I completed my undergraduate at Pitt and it's a great school in a great city. I also have known several MLIS students who were able to intern in the archives at the museum who love getting practical experience
  9. I logged in to my UTexas site as well and there was nowhere to formally accept
  10. So.... where did everyone choose to attend, in the end? Now that April 15th has passed

Hi there - I'm looking to possibly enroll at UT Austin's art history program in the fall. I''m not quite sure how campus is laid out, but what area of town would be closest to the Art Building? I live in a fairly cheap city right now and am hoping to not pay an arm and a leg.
  12. I had issues with several schools whose online applications asked for .pdf files of my transcript (which is still in progress as I finish undergrad) - come January, two schools emailed me asking for transcripts. I don't know if my attachments didn't work, or they thought my scanned transcript looked sketchy, but I immediately went to the registrar's office to mail off copies.
  13. Thank you both for the responses! I have been assured it's a permanent position. Neither of the schools I was considering are in the same city as the job (and my undergraduate institution essentially does not admit their own to the grad art history program). There is a arts management program at a nearby institution, although I'd prefer an AH degree. I just can't help but think that because this fits precisely in my career goals, I should work for awhile and then reevaluate grad school in my mid/late 20s once my life is more fixed.
  14. I need advice - I received a full-time job offer for a museum administration position where I currently work part-time. I am also in the throes of considering two graduate programs where I've been accepted, each with pros and cons. I have til April 15th to choose. I ultimately wish to be neither an academic nor a curator (I work in exhibitions and registration and love it), and this position would allow me to work directly on a large, international loan exhibition. I initially applied to MA programs because I thought I needed an MA to get a job, but now I'm not so sure... ack. Would it be a major burned bridge to turn down the two schools, take the job, and maybe 4 years from now reapply to grad school?
  15. Does anyone know what's up with SAIC's financial aid? I know they have some merit scholarships, so I called the office. "If you are awarded aid, you'll get a letter in 3-5 business days. If you're not awarded aid, you won't get a letter". So I called back days later and a different secretary told me that decisions are included in the initial admission letter? If they don't have any funding available, there's no way I can consider attending.
