What do y'all think: would it be forward to send Dr. Wegner an e-mail asking about one's application status? I have to respond to a Canadian offer by March 21st, so.... Thoughts?

I don't think so. You have a deadline and a decision to make. I think they would understand.

Seconded. Just a polite note saying that you have a deadline from an international university that's coming due in a couple weeks would probably be the best way to go about it.

Good luck getting a respond. As I've previously stated, I emailed him regarding my application status over two weeks ago and never got a response. I've heard that some people had success calling, though, so I think that might be a better option.

Hoping I don't fall into the category of the last few rejections left to send out. Cquin...did she give any indication of when the other notices will go out?

Nope, she didn't say. It MUST be soon, right??

That last one was probably me. I got the same call as cquin. So bummed because my lunch ended started just as the phone rang; couldn't answer with 25 eleventh-graders staring at me.

cquin--any heads-up on what I should expect? Dobrin hasn't called me back yet, but I want spoilers!

crystalleem--I'm not sure about that. I think they make you apply for their MA before PhD--no? I can't remember...

Well, I can't take it anymore! I emailed every program that I am still waiting on, only because all the schools I haven't heard from have already issued acceptances, waitlists, and/or rejections. I'm going crazy over here.

I would rather know than live in hopeful denial. Whoever said, "Ignorance is bliss" surely never felt the torture that is applying for PhD programs.

I'll post anything I hear, especially for all of you who are in the same boat as me. Can't they just tell us already???

Congrats, aeplo!

Haha, I received the call during my lunch break as well! And I only had about five minutes to speak with him, so we're going to have a more in-depth conversation tomorrow. The gist of it was: full tuition waiver, plus stipend--I think he said $9,000 a year, but I could be mistaken. You begin teaching your second year, for your first year you mentor (not sure exactly what that entails). He began to talk about health insurance but I had to cut him off to get back to work. For a Master's program, I think it's a pretty incredible deal!

You, too, cquin! Sounds like a great deal for an MA. Did he say if it was a terminal degree? I can't tell from the site whether it feeds directly into the phd or not.

Just for anyone who may be wondering, I did receive an email back from Dr. Wegner this morning. Part of the email said, "We are in fact in the middle of contacting all those who applied to our program, and the process will be completed sometime in the next week or so. While we are unable to offer you admission at this time, you are currently on our waitlist, and this means our admissions committee was impressed by your application and feels that you will thrive in a strong doctoral program."

So...that means they aren't finished for those of you still waiting. Those of you accepted, if you think there's a chance you might go elsewhere, PM me. I would love to go to UF!
