LizJayne Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Hello fellow BC-ers! My name's Liz, I just got accepted in the the Boston College Lynch School of Ed's M.Ed program for Moderate Special Needs. Now comes the insane search for an affordable apartment with easy access to the green line and 2 bedrooms...
emma1frost Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 I also got into BC for secondary teaching, but I am still deciding on whether or not to attend. It's definitely in contention but looking at rents near campus is a bit daunting. It used to be more affordable to live around there, but you can't find a 1 bedroom apartment for less than $1300 a month and few apartments include utilities! Hmmm... might look into the grad campus housing that BC offers to see what those options are. Good Luck!
LikeADonut Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Hi all, I will be attending BC's ADEP, PhD program this Fall. if anyone has any questions about housing, please feel free to contact me privately (in addition to posting them on here). I live in Boston and may me able to help you out. As others have mentioned elsewhere, Boston can be affordable if you know where to look. Like most large cities, if you're willing to move a bit farther out, it's more affordable. I might suggest considering a place that is on the bus line that runs to BC versus moving on the Green Line. Why? BC is at the very end of the Green Line, and stops at just about every block along the way. This means it is very slow. Certainly not faster than your average bus ride. Fewer people take the time to research bus lines, but many try to move near the Green Line, which makes the cost of living near the Green line quite pricey. Another option I would suggest considering is that for your first year you may consider moving somewhere on the Orange or Red Lines. I especially recomment this option for people who aren't relatively local to Boston already (I came from out-of-state). You may find you like that better, and can put up with the longer commute for the more affordable rent/lovely community/other reasons. For example, I lived in an apartment in Jamaica Plain, at the end of the Orange Line when I first moved to Boston. I spent the first few months saving money and scoping out apartments before finding my dream place (still in JP, by the way). Hope that helps! I'm looking forward to meeting you all soon! Shaun

dazedandbemused Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 I'm heading to Boston College to do my MA in English and I'll definitely be needing a roommate (or roommates) this fall. After looking at the rent and utilities in the area, I'm beginning to seriously doubt my ability to live alone
CarleyW Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Yeah, I am considering attending BC for the MA ADEP program (I've been accepted, I'm still considering another school though) and I find it really odd that there is no college town/ college student community off campus. Anyway I'm still not sure if I would bring my car or not, I live in San Diego, CA so it's a long drive out there. Anyway I'm looking for housing and roommates starting this fall, and hopefully some guidance because I don't know the area at all.
