echolikebells
Just crunched some numbers. I'm hoping Brown comes through with a decent funding offer (which I'm still waiting on, they said I'd get the letter by yesterday) that I can either accept or use as leverage for Vanderbilt, because otherwise, the only school I can afford is Ohio State. And right as I had decided it was Vandy or bust! Bummed, to be honest. Ohio State is a great school and Columbus is wonderful but I hate that money has made my decision for me. Plus I've already been here for three years! Oh well! Still keeping fingers crossed about Brown's funding...
mglang
I see I am not the only one waiting on Vandy. No acceptance, but no rejection either, not even wait listed. I called the Graduate Admissions office and they were pretty helpless. I have a very generous funding offer at UIUC (my second choice) and acceptances at UA, UC-Denver, UTSA. I think UIUC will be. Im pretty dissapointed about Vanderbilt tho
litjust
I'm going to UW Madison. It is my #1 choice!!
emma1frost
Got some great news about Brown. Financial help that was mentioned in the letter was actually helpful. I am 95% certain of my choice there. But I am checking out their admitted student's day and the one at Lynch to really seal the deal. Fingers crossed and best wishes for all out there waiting on funding too. Stinks that this is the way it's done, but sending out lucky vibes to all. Yay! mrsanchez
Applied: IUPÂ (safety school--recommended by a professor who graduated from there); NYU Steinhardt, Teachers College, Columbia University Accepted: IUP, NYU Pending: TC Probably attending: NYU I'm not sure of the amounts, but it looks like NYU has better aid offerings (won't find out until near end of March) than TC, which was my first choice. Of course, if I don't get accepted there, TC's aid will be a nonfactor. IUP was really an out-there, just-because program choice, but it was still good to get an acceptance from there right away. My program is Teaching of English/Secondary English Educatin, M.A. I probably should've given Vanderbilt and maybe a few other really good programs a shot. The overall process has been rewarding. Not perfect, but enough that the difference between cost at Brown and cost at the school I got my undergrad from is only $7,000 apart. Still having to make some rough decisions though! That's so great!!! I am happy for you! I am amazed that a place like Brown was generous enough to extend help when Columbia TC offered absolutely nothing. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy toward them, tipping the scales more toward their end of things. Much luck with deciding where to go, I know how much more hair pulling there will be on the road ahead. Are you going to the admitted student's open house?

Plus I have class the day they want us to come out, and the day after, so it'll be difficult to swing. I'm trying to figure out if I can, but I'm doubtful. emma1frost
it seems like Columbia TC doesn't offer very much compared to other schools. Yeah, they are really stingy about it. And I am sure their endowment is much larger than Brown's. And without subsidized federal loans this coming fall, I am really hesitant to take out over $60,000 in loans. TexanLex
Still seriously struggling with my decision-making. It's looking like Penn and Michigan have pushed Vandy completely out of my radar though. But both of those schools are different in so many ways. I feel like this would be so much easier if I didn't have any options :/
kismetcapitan
Vanderbilt's IEPM notifications come out all scattered - they're handpicking each person for a very small cohort. I was notified in APRIL, when it was down to the wire and I had to make a decision about other school offers. If you're really pressed about wanting to get a decision about the IEPM program - call Kim Tanner. All of the admissions people are very friendly and can update you on your status in great detail. Peabody has a LOT of research money; more than half of my cohort got research positions that gives them free tuition plus a living stipend. One of them just showed up in Nashville with no idea how she was going to pay; she's international and ineligible for loans. She landed a research job in less than a week. Plus, these research positions give valuable experience. Once you start looking at the zillion research options, you begin to realize why Peabody keeps getting ranked #1. I wouldn't be daunted by Peabody's price tag - very few people are paying sticker price, and there are so many options to get the cost down to zero. Feel free to contact me if you have questions about Peabody....and Nashville is an awesome city! Small town traffic and feel, big city features, culture, and lots of famous people. It's also very cheap to live here

It's looking like Penn and Michigan have pushed Vandy completely out of my radar though. But both of those schools are different in so many ways. I feel like this would be so much easier if I didn't have any options :/ LOL, I know. I'm absolutely torn. I'm comparing apples and oranges. I'm hoping campus visits and conversations with potential advisers will help. But I have no idea how I'm going to choose and feel like I made the best choice! PhDreams
I feel the same way, wildviolet! I was dead set on HGSE, but now Michigan made me a very attractive financial offer. I absolutely love Michigan and now I feel like I'm not as sure about HGSE. I guess I'll see how I feel after the visit to Michigan and after I receive hGSE's fin aid package. I'm always here to chat if you need someone to talk to... Especially since now I'm in a similar situation with michigan.

wildviolet
Oops, I meant TexanLex. Although it seems like you're torn too, wildviolet. Lol! Thanks! Now, you mean U of Michigan, Ann Arbor, right? I would be at Michigan State University. Anyway, what are we all going to do??? This is worse than waiting for decisions to come in!
