peach11 Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Does anyone know when we should be hearing back from Jackson?
DancesWithDogs Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) lordy,... the silence is killer.... i'm on the same boat as you, man Edited March 7, 2012 by DancesWithDogs
peach11 Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 I know! I applied to 8 programs and have only heard back from 1 (SIS, in with no $ ) -- i'm stressing out over here, schools!
sietval Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 I called them yesterday, and was told that she doesn't know....
meichen_l Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 i think last couple of years they sent our in early march.. march 8th, more specifically.. though no idea if they will stick with this schedule this year
sietval Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Do people know what time it came out in the last years? (ie. might we hear back today?)
meichen_l Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 last year the first one came out on Mar 8th... and it last to 12...
Clay Made Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 I spoke to Alice, and she mentioned they're still considering. A friend in the program this year said they were in DC this week and Alice mentioned some people were still completing applications (me included!) so things may be delayed. No confirmation from those in admissions though.
piquant777 Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 Hey Clay Made, how can you still be completing an application that was due months ago...? Or is this for some kind of scholarship? Did I miss something? And who is Alice?
xmbeckham Posted March 10, 2012 Posted March 10, 2012 I emailed them and they said the first or second week of March...

Did I miss something? And who is Alice? I had some issues caused by ETS on the delay of my scores. And Alice is Alice Kustenbauder, the Jackson institute admissions coordinator.
piquant777 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Ah, right, I remember. So glad Yale decided they could wait on your scores. I hope ETS compensates you or something, seriously. Hopefully this week is the week for all these schools.
peach11 Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 just got the reject. oh well...it was a longshot given the class size is so small.
hudwa Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Rejected. Bad grades (2.29 GPA from a small public college, 156Q/164V/4.5W GRE), but several years of experience in Tokyo with the Japanese government and attendence at various international conferences (G20, COP15, APEC Summit, etc.). Was looking for a more professional program and figured Yale was a long shot anyway. Good luck to everyone!
xmbeckham Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I got rejected too. Thought I could get in.. sigh.
peach11 Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 i'm very curious to see what kind of applicant gets in here. so if you are accepted, please share your secret! sietval 1
peach11 Posted March 12, 2012 Author Posted March 12, 2012 I got in. The best part of the letter was "Your selection is a recognition by the Faculty of your accomplishments and, especially, of your promise as a scholar and a researcher.", which confirms to me the extreme academic bent of the whole program. I don't think it's for me but I'm definitely flattered. No word on any $, they say it's going to come in a letter that I will prob never get since I live abroad. wow, that's quite an acceptance! congratulations! i'm guessing you have a decent amount of experience?
piquant777 Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 4 years WE, 3 in developing countries. But it's sooooo academic, I'm sure they take professor recommendations, previous thesis research/publications (I have the former but not the latter) and GPA/GRE just as if not more seriously than WE. Maybe undergrad institution, too.
xmbeckham Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 the rejection is a very general msg from the Graduate school of arts and sciences, no mention of the program I applied -- IR. I'm wondering if I had applied to the right program or my app had been reviewed at all! Just curious, is it the case for every one not in??
vegeta Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Dinged! Alas, not meant to be. That said, I did get into a different Ivy MBA last month so its been a good 2012 so far. I imagine the pedigree of accepted Jackson students is pretty impressive since so many of us on here got dinged. Congrats to everyone who made the cut, and I hope the rest get good news from other schools soon!

3eid Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 I'm in at Jackson as well. In my case, I'm guessing it helped that my research/work interests and previous employment (violence in post-conflict Arab states) match up pretty exactly with the Program on Order, Conflict, and Violence. My stats: 3.7/3.9/4.0; 680v 730q; Fluent French, Fluent Arabic, Persian; Three years abroad in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt; Two years work experience for an Iraq-based consultancy. Good luck, kids!
sietval Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 (edited) have people gotten into HKS/WWS/Stanford IPS/SIPA after being rejected by Yale? Those are the only ones I've applied to and now I feel like I'm out at all schools. Edited March 12, 2012 by sietval
