Waiting for news from the UCs is like trying to interpret the rustling of the wind

Besides Berkeley (rejected 12/15), I'm still waiting to hear from the other UCs. I know as a Masters student, I heard back March 12-March 13 from UCLA and Berkeley. Now I'm waiting on a whole slew of UCs, and I'm awful at it!

I know the really strong candidate acceptances went out in February, but I wonder how long I should wait for a normal acceptance/reject. Different departments have different timelines, but even so, has anyone heard back from their UCs? Any information at this point would ease my impatience.

Still waiting for news from UCD here, but they were a bit of a reach school and none of the PIs are really in a situation to take a student, so I've all but written it off.

Also no help here. I heard two weeks ago that I was on a list of potential admits, but haven't heard anything since. I've seen a few acceptances and rejections by my department on the results survey since, but I'm still in the dark. UCLA is my top choice, so I'm definitely hoping for acceptance, but I don't know what to think. So, at least you're not alone.

Heard of a UCSD rejection early on (mid January) haven't heard anything from my non-UC school post interview.

I know last month the strong candidates heard back, but the website says my page will be updated once an admissions decision has been reached. Still no decision apparently. Considering I've only been accepted to one school so far and haven't even gotten the letter yet (which was only a MA program - I applied to Berkeley's English PhD program), I'm starting to freak out a little bit.

How long should I wait before calling the school? If I've been rejected I'd rather just find out via e-mail or phone now instead of waiting. April 15th is coming up mighty fast and I need to figure out what I'm doing.

I'm there with you. Two weeks ago I emailed the Student Affairs Officer for the NELC department at UCLA, and she gave me some information about my application (apparently still in the running). I haven't heard anything since. I think that, considering how late it is, you're perfectly justified to inquire about the application. Have you seen acceptances and rejections posted to the results survey?

I also was accepted to a MA program, which is not what I want to do. But, I needed to cultivate a backup in case the PhD programs didn't work out. UCLA is my top choice, so I'm awfully stressed about the late notice. I'm ready to know where I'm going this fall.

The economy is so bad and so on that grad school this year is competitive enough that (I'm 100% sure) UC Merced had a better showing of applicants than they've had in years.

I've been hypothesizing for a while that the delay could be the result of the departments waiting to hear what sort of funding is going to be available before they make their final decisions. It has been the case in the past where they have accepted students in mid and late February, but not finalized their financial aid packages until late March. Maybe this year they are being more cautious with the initial offers.
