bhosage Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I had an interview with the University of Scranton for their MHA program. After the interview the department adviser wrote me a letter of recommendation for acceptance into the program. He then had me sign a paper (but not date it) which had my schedule on it for the fall. He said if I'm accepted and after I call in to accept the offer that the department would date it. This was two weeks ago. I called and they said I should get a letter in 7-10 days. Is there a chance I will still be rejected? Does a letter of recommendation guarantee admission? I'm freaking out
Rachel B Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 If it guaranteed admission it wouldn't be called a recommendation. Basically the department advisor is recommending the department and or graduate school admit you, but the decision rests on the admissions committee.
Semester Photon Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I don't know if this is helpful but when I applied to Portland State, I got a letter in the mail from the math department stating that they had "recommended me for admission." Four weeks later I got a letter from Portland State University making my acceptance official. Bureaucracy works very slowly. While unofficial, the recommendation you got is a very good sign. Just because it's been a while doesn't mean you are rejected. You will likely be admitted into the program. Just give the bureaucracy a little more time to pull all their levers and rubber-stamp your application.
Hillary Emick Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 I had an interview in January and was told I would get an admissions letter in 2 weeks or so and a funding offer by mid-March. The admissions letter didn't come until last week. Don't despair yet. The wheels do turn very slowly inside the universities. For us, this is our whole life on the line. For the administration, it's just another stack of papers to process.
CeciWhite Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 I applied in October to California State and the department hasn't even got my paperwork from the admission's office... sigh, how can they be this slow?
