Wowzers! I'm into SAIS! So, HKS, what do you have to say about that?

In other news, it looks like Missouri is increasing the spread against Cornell.

Yeah. I've always heard that the Quant score is definitely where the emphasis is, and that to be competitive, 700+ in the Quant secion is pretty much mandatory. On the other hand, a school told me it helps to give them a better picture about your quantitative skills, especially because a lot of applicants to some of these programs come from more liberal arts majors, and less from engineering, science, computer, or even business majors.

I had a quant-heavy major in college, so I was told that as long as I hit the magic (700+) number I'd be fine. It might come under more scrutiny if you didn't have much as far as quantitative coursework during your undergraduate degree.

i have a friend at HKS who's on the adcomm, and last i spoke with her (about 2 weeks ago), we discussed exactly these things. i'll pass on her words now. many of you, i'm sure, already know this, but for those who have questions this will hopefully shed some light on the matter:

  • [*:3ayxtcjp]there is no minimum, no cutoff, but both V and Q scores are important. with that said, a higher Q score of 700+ is more critical; remember that GRE scores have percentages, and more people do well on the Q than on the V. for example, a V score of 700 might put you in the 96th percentile, while a 700 on the Q might put you in the 70th percentile.
[*:3ayxtcjp]there is a holistic approach taken to judging a candidate's eligibility, so a candidate who's been out of undergrad for a while and has more work experience will need to worry less about GRE scores than someone who completed his/her bachelor's degree in the past few years.
[*:3ayxtcjp]on a slightly unrelated note, this year the HKS adcomm has looked for applicants who clearly indicated their sincere desire to get into the public/government/nonprofit sector. in the past few years, a disproportionate amount of MPP grads (i want to say between 30 and 40%) have ended up in the private sector. while this is understandable, considering how expensive grad school can be, the administration has taken on aid/debt as a primary concern. i think jmoney referred to this earlier, maybe in this thread or another one.

i hope this helps!

well the 5 EST hour has passed. are we resigning ourselves to waiting until after kennedy's break? or are they going to pull a late night tonight?

there is the *slight* possibility that whatever decisions haven't been processed by tonight will be done early in the week and decisions will still be sent out during Harvard's spring break week. like somebody else mentioned, the office will (or at least should) still be working next week.

personally, i think decisions will be out the 24th. that's my over/under.

I am an international student and now waiting for HKS-MPP.

While I believe we will hear good news from HKS soon and the admissions will process application during spring break, all HKS students will enjoy the break. Who can ring-a-thorn the applicants even when they may enjoy the break in overseas, if HKS processes next week? Why can't they process MPP applications even though it has already taken more one week than previous year did?

just keeping this thread alive (and hoping that it won't be too long now before people come looking for it!).

Keep it alive! Along with all of our anxiety about HKS. At this point I'm holding out, but making decisions based on the assumption that I'm not accepted. Hopefully that will curb the disappointment. Any chance that works? yah, didn't think so.

Does anyone know how will the KSG notify their decisions (email or snail mail?? I was about to email them but at this point I fear that overwhelming them with requests could be terribly counterproductive.

So, anyone feeling positive about tomorrow/this week? Anyone have any gut feelings? And, here's a new question ponder: Do you think HKS will break the mold and send out admits and rejections on the same day? Or, will they do stick to tradition and send out admits, followed by rejections within a few days?

At this point, I am sort of enjoying the wait, I must say.

my gut feeling about harvard notifying turned out to be bunk...

but just to make things even more interesting, how about we have a little contest? first person to post ANY verified, official decision (accept, reject, waitlist) on this thread from HKS for the 2 year MPP program WINS...the govt affairs board virtual crown? exclusive use of this 8) cool dude emoticon? lavish praise from the rest of us?

any takers? because really, haven't most of us, possibly in a misguided way, just been waiting for nearly a year to hear what harvard thinks of us?

Just got my congratulations email! Just as I had resigned myself to not hearing until after their spring break...

Financial awards will be available online after April 3.

So excited!

Huge congrats to those who got in! Not too sad because I have some great other schools to choose from. I just would have liked the option of going back to Boston. Well, looks like the odds of going to DC are pretty good at this point. Come on SAIS, show me the funding love...
