I was just wondering whether anyone has heard back from Columbia? I applied to the New Genres program and still no word ..

Thank you.

And good luck to everyone ..

Hi there! People on the forums have said that Columbia already sent out their interview requests, so at this point if we haven't heard, it probably isn't good news. I'm in the same boat though, I haven't heard anything either. I'm not holding my breath on them.

Even though you are probably correct, "it ain't over till the chubby lady sings" (something like that)... I'm hoping it's because we are so good that there is no need for interviewing us!

I think keeping a positive attitude is always a better way of approaching things... But with that said, based on the way they have notified in the past, the fact that in slide room people who received interview requests still had "mfa" written next to their program name and people who had the "mfa" removed did not get interviewed, we can safely assume with little doubt we are rejected.

It's a great program, but you can't feel too bad getting rejected because of the sheer number of applications they receive. We probably will get our rejection letters this week based on when they sent them before.

Ol'spice, I'm right there with you! If it's anything I've learned through this process, it's that it ain't over til it's over! :)

why is the program so great (for new genres)?

Isn't it expensive as hell, with zero funding available... I don't recognise any of the artists on the faculty either in new genres...

Testing, you're right, it is very expensive. Honestly, even if I got in, I'm not sure I could go. Also, the facilities aren't great.

However, the program itself is pretty awesome. It's a truly interdisciplinary program, which is something I like. As far as New Genres go, Jon Kesslar, Sandford Biggers and Shelly Silver are all major New York artists. Mika Rottenburg came out of Columbia as well. Plus it's Columbia - the resources an ivy league university has as far as academics go is pretty awesome, especially in science. Brian Greene is there, as well as many other well known scientists. Just my thoughts.

Now if I could find a sugar daddy to get me a loft on the upper west side with an adjacent studio space, I'd be all set. That and getting in, of course.

It's more than 100K but at the info session, they told that big chunk of the tuition will be paid through different kind of scholarships.

My SO hasn't heard anything yet. We're assuming no interview = rejection, but since other people have received responses (good and bad) we're anxious. It's almost April 1st!
