Mine was listed as incomplete up until early February, despite having submitted everything on time (I had to re-submit my essay for some reason). I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the reason that I'm still waiting. I didn't have any trouble with my application status on the website, but received an email in the beginning of March saying that I had not submitted my official transcripts. Turns out they lost them, but I resubmitted them immediately after. I'm sure that's what put me at the bottom of the pile.

I actually called the office today, and asked about notifications. The person I spoke too said I should have heard something, then put me on hold, and told me that things are still being finalized, and that I should keep on checking for the email, and that hopefully it should come in the next few days. So I guess FSIA is right that the decisions have been made, they just have to do whatever it is they do before releasing them. Yeah. I called them :cry: End of the week is what they're estimating, but they aren't sure. Thats DAYS away. :cry: If things carry on like this, I'll probably be chucked out of my job too... what with the lack of concentration and the extreme addiction to this forum. A while ago, I actually found myself mindlessly F5-ing the SIPA acceptance board... just to see if any of the other 3%-ers responded. Yup, I'm officially nuts now.

jduds Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I envy the people who heard like 3 weeks ago. I wonder how many 3% percenters there are? I know Columbia graduates a huge class. They probably have like 2000+ applications a year, so I'd say there are about 60/70 of us.

Yeah I doubt they'd consider me for funding either I have undergraduate degree in Economics (with the equivalent of a lousy 3 GPA) and a Masters in Management. My GRE was 690Q and 720V with a 5 AWA. I have 6 years of experience working as a Consultant to Government agencies implementing reforms in India, Sri Lanka and Trinidad and Tobago. I guess about the only decent thing about my app is my work... I basically applied only to 3 places - Sciences Po in France (Accepted), LSE (thrown out on my ear) and SIPA. So now I'm wondering which route SIPA will go. And it's driving me nuts. Though it shouldnt. Sciences Po has a dual degree programme with LSE and SIPA and I do intend to apply to both for my second year if I go there. But SIPA was my second choice after LSE, so I'm really really hoping to get in. Won't matter much without funding, but (and I think it was younglions who said this on another forum), if I get through, I'm going to print and frame the acceptance for posterity

BTW, your stats look similar to mine, I mean mine's lower (can't even remember my GRE Verbal score, Q same, GPA about same, no econ/quant during UG) but I have 6 yr WE as PO at govt agency on int'l development. Don't think I'll make the funding either, just eager to know my results.
Dreams Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I think I am actually beginning to find this disconcerting for once. It definitely ranks low in terms of first impressions. If they don't send the results by the end of the week, then they are essentially giving us less than two weeks to decide. I mean look at the admitted students day - the day before all decisions are due. I am seriously thinking that if I do not get the official notice in the mail by Friday that I will reconsider SIPA as my top choice for the fall.

Sciences Po have to be THE most helpful school I've ever interacted with... their representative in my city actually wrote to me, spent over an hour patiently answering queries and they're always ready to help with financial aid applications. Bah. Why can't SIPA be nice?

fall09 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 It is stunning how many people opt out of either applying to or attending SIPA because of their negative experiences when interacting with their (admissions) staff. Of all the threads I have been following (SAIS, WWS, HKS, Yale, LSE, Fletcher) none voices dissatisfaction with the interaction between the school and the student as explicitly as this one does. I have an offer for the MIA and am myself very unsure whether to take it, also, but not exclusively, because I am less than impressed with the lack and manner of communication with students. I tend to translate this attitude into the kind of working relationship we can expect with the academic staff as well. Though I may be wrong, my guess is I am not the only one with this line of thought. The admissions blog is a step in the right direction but if they want to get the best students and thereby ensure academic excellence in the future, they will have to do a whole lot more than blogging. One would hope that they read this thread and take people

I was accepted into Fletcher and Science Po (I didn't apply to SIPA because I really don't like the program, and have had bad experiences with the staff). I applied for the MPA at Sciences Po. My preference for SIPA stems from two reasons - the first is the curriculum. SIPA will allow me to concentrate on Economic development and policy. I also prefer the specialisations offered by SIPA. The second (and not so logically valid) reason is the level of comfort I'd have in the US vs. France. I am not as fluent in French as I'd like to be and I fear I won't be able to take full advantage of the career and other resources with that handicap at Sciences Po. Now for the reasons which are now making me lean towards Sciences Po (as I've gotten to know them better over the months. They accepted me way back in November - took only 10 days to come back with my decision and have been in almost constant touch since). First is that Sciences Po offers funding and the French Government also has several scholarship options. Second, Sciences Po has a much smaller class size than SIPA and I'm guessing its more international in its intake. The class of 2010 has 36 students from 17 countries... In my interactions with them, they seem a lot more invested in their students than SIPA. The latter seems cold and disinterested, while Sciences Po has been wonderful everytime I've written to them or spoken to them. They usually reply to any mail within a day... and I've made some really specific requests while I was applying for scholarships. In fact, if you're unable to get adequate funding, Sciences Po is willing to help you work with corporates in Paris to set up some sort of paid research projects. That is the kind of commitment I want from a school, specially as a foreign student.
