radiomars Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Hey guys, I have a BS in Anthropology from UCLA, with a 3.78 GPA. Just took the GRE today. Unofficial scores: 160 Verbal, 162 Quantitative. The verbal score is killing me. It's the 83rd percentile, but I was averaging nowhere below the 95th percentile in my practice tests. I calculated the scores over to the old system and it seems like I have a 770 in Quant, and a measly 600 in Verbal. I'm applying to UBC, UCLA, UCSB, and Yale for either Anthropology or Psychology programs. I've been told by my PI at UBC that the scores are high enough for admission, but if I were to get 750 on the Verbal, I would probably be first in line for a fellowship. Do you think it's worth retaking? Thanks.
1Q84 Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 If you have the time and money, why not? It's doubtful you'd shoot below 83rd percentile on the retake... right?
chaetzli Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 If you want to apply for the top universities: sure! The better the scores the better your chances of getting accepted. If I can get 161 (v) as a non-native it should be possible for someone who studied in the US too.
