How long should a 'brief statement of purpose'

The school I am applying to requires a "brief statement of purpose." It doesn't tell me how long it should be, though. Thanks =]

Usually it's between 500 and 1000 worlds.

I would see if the school has a restriction. One of the schools I am looking at said 300-500 is a brief statement while another said 700-1000.
