smo2102 Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Are there any applicants to Michigan's Anthro & History doctoral program browsing the forums? It is a small, specialized program that does not attract as many applicants as straight anthro or history, but I am curious if there is anyone else interested in this program out there in internets land.
benjybrentwood Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I applied! havent heard anything yet though...
smo2102 Posted March 2, 2009 Author Posted March 2, 2009 People have posted rejections (and a handful of acceptances) from both UM anthro and UM history, but not word on the joint program yet.
pumpkin Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Anthro/History is a separate program with a separate committee. No news yet, but supposedly they over-enrolled last year and are keeping this cohort small. That's just a rumor, though...
smo2102 Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Somebody posted an acceptance on Feb. 25 via phone. The graduate coordinator told the student "that they are still making decisions and that she will mail (post) and email letters next week." We shall see...
pumpkin Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Actually, that was just an "Other" via phone; the poster just called to check in. Good luck to you, and if this doesn't come through, the Bay Area is a wonderful place to spend several years!
smo2102 Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Pumpkin, do you also post on T(op)L(aw)S(chools)?
pumpkin Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 What? There's another pumpkin out there? Nope, nope. Definitely no law school for me.
limeinthecoconut Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Someone I know was accepted a week or so ago. I don't know any details, though.
pumpkin Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 A friend of mine in the program told me things were really tight and that he'd heard they'd accepted a couple people but without concrete funding offers. This is normally a guaranteed five-year funding program, and apparently, things were bad enough that they'd contemplated not admitting anyone. It's not us, guys. This has just been an all around difficult year.
limeinthecoconut Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 This has just been an all around difficult year. Yup. At least one ivy I know reduced their intake for a certain department by half. On a happier note, if any of you are on the waitlist, my friend is rejecting the spot.
benjybrentwood Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Has anyone else still not heard back from this program?
smo2102 Posted March 23, 2009 Author Posted March 23, 2009 Has anyone else still not heard back from this program? Rejected via post today.
advice Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I applied to this program once upon a time and was turned down. Good luck to all who applied!
