Jordan+AirForce1 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 don't give up, it's still early March. Anyone planning to attend the visiting Monday this month at Stanford?
lightyears Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 I'll be there March 20th for Civil Engineering 5000 mile road trip
Jordan+AirForce1 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I'll be there March 20th for Civil Engineering 5000 mile road trip do you get reimbursed for your trip??
lightyears Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 nope... but I'm visiting a few schools along the way. I'm considering it a vacation.
lightyears Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 I just called Berkeley and was told my application was still under review and that I'll know the decision by April. That doesn't really help since I'll be in Palo Alto in 10 days and leaving soon after that.
Jordan+AirForce1 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 oh that's good for you. You'll have fun, for sure im still contemplating whether i should go to for the Stanford visit day... the plane alone would cost $350 or so, not to mention the hotel and all.. The Stanford mechanical engineering website doesn't contain a lot of information regarding graduate programs, so i'm thinking the visit is essential.

lightyears Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 When visiting a school that doesn't have a specific recruiting day, who should I email to let them know I'm coming? The director or random professors?
boneh3ad Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Email the advisor they assigned to you and tell them you would like to make a visit and ask if there is any set program for such a visit for admitted grad students.
lightyears Posted March 11, 2009 Author Posted March 11, 2009 None of the programs I was admitted to assigned me an advisor. Maybe because I'm a master's student?
boneh3ad Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 No, I got assigned someone. Just how about the official information email address for the department? There has to be some point of contact on the department's website.
boneh3ad Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 So... anyone else heard anything from anyone yet?
barner Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I applied to a handful of Master's programs and was accepted into Berkeley yesterday. The other decisions I've received are below...now I'm just hoping to hear news either way from the last two schools and trying to decide where to go from here.

lightyears Posted March 16, 2009 Author Posted March 16, 2009 I was just accepted to Texas A&M with a very nice funding package.
boneh3ad Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I was just accepted to Texas A&M with a very nice funding package. So was I...
Jordan+AirForce1 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 so schools are giving out funded MSME this late in the cycle? i was under the impression that funded offers are usually given out early..?
boneh3ad Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 I applied direct to Ph.D. at TAMU, so they probably aren't giving out funded MS offers.
lightyears Posted March 17, 2009 Author Posted March 17, 2009 I applied direct to Ph.D. at TAMU, so they probably aren't giving out funded MS offers. Mine was a funded MS offer
boneh3ad Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 First result in, Cornell masters rejection Email or snail mail? I ask because I applied there too, so I would imagine that I would be hearing one way or another soon.
ponja Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 e-mail, applied to MS which seemed to be a mistake, something like all of them being funded? I mean accepting 20/500 is ridiculous of course I didn't have a chance.

Getting MS alone isn't an option anymore at Cornell, i've heard... It's either Ph.D directly, or M.Eng.
