Sovereign Soul Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 What do you folks think about saying: "An additional reason why I want to study at program X is because it is located where I intend to focus my research."
Bearcat1 Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 I think proximity to research resources is definitely something to mention. You want these programs to believe that if you are accepted, you will attend, so any reasons you can give to confirm that are good.
DarwinAG Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 What do you mean? The population you want to study is near the university? I would generally avoid referencing location as a reason unless its research related.
rising_star Posted November 14, 2012 Posted November 14, 2012 I would be clearer about how the location relates to your research. In fact, you might want to put it in the section where you talk about the research you want to do, rather than in a fit paragraph. If, for example, you want to study the U.S.-Mexico border, then you'd want to say in your application to UCSD that their location puts you closer to your study population, if you know what I mean.
Sovereign Soul Posted November 15, 2012 Author Posted November 15, 2012 Yes, the population I want to study is located near the university I am applying to. I think the idea of including in my discussion of my research proposal is a good one. Thanks Bright Star!
