What do you folks think about saying:

"An additional reason why I want to study at program X is because it is located where I intend to focus my research."

I think proximity to research resources is definitely something to mention. You want these programs to believe that if you are accepted, you will attend, so any reasons you can give to confirm that are good.

What do you mean? The population you want to study is near the university?

I would generally avoid referencing location as a reason unless its research related.

I would be clearer about how the location relates to your research. In fact, you might want to put it in the section where you talk about the research you want to do, rather than in a fit paragraph. If, for example, you want to study the U.S.-Mexico border, then you'd want to say in your application to UCSD that their location puts you closer to your study population, if you know what I mean.

Yes, the population I want to study is located near the university I am applying to. I think the idea of including in my discussion of my research proposal is a good one. Thanks Bright Star!
