Allouette Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) Wooo congrats to everyone who's finished. I just have one pesky little Statement of Purpose to write, made all the more difficult since I just realised one of my POIs was poached by another university in November Ugh, same thing happened to me, and she's going to a small private undergrad college, so she's completely out of the game. I was so sad because she was one of my top choices. And to make it worse, the POI left at that institution turns out to be a misogynistic asshat (anyone else see this? http://jezebel.com/5952624/university-of-chicago-professor-very-disappointed-that-female-neuroscientists-arent-sexier) and I was left wondering whether it was worth it to still apply because 1) my top choice POI was gone and 2) do I really want to work with someone like that for the next five years of my life? Allouette Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Congrats!!!! Some schools start to notify in two weeks... can you believe it?! Is it really so soon????? Oh my. Oh my oh my oh my.
PhDreams Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Is it really so soon????? Oh my. Oh my oh my oh my. One of my schools will announce in 2 weeks.
Allouette Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 One of my schools will announce in 2 weeks. My fingers are crossed for you!
PhDreams Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 My fingers are crossed for you! Awww... thanks! I'm starting to get nervous. I think all my schools announce before Valentine's Day. If it doesn't pan out, I plan to drown my sorrows in heart shaped chocolates. anxiousanthro 1
Lexicon Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I don't even know when most of my schools are announcing. How do you find out? Contact the department?
PhDreams Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Results Search... oh, and I'm sorry. I basically just ruined the next few HOURS for you.... lol radiomars and Allouette 2
PhDreams Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Just got off the phone with Stanford Anthro. My application appeared incomplete and she assured me that they are just barely updating applications so many applicants will appear imcomplete. Sounds like theyve been getting a lot of calls about this. So, if you applied and still have an incomplete app, don't fret!
kphd Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 One of my schools will announce in 2 weeks. Hi! which one?? I have applied to all your schools and more!
kphd Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 When Duke and Emory say they will invite us to visit the university before the final selections, at the universities expense, does that also apply to internationals? Has it been done before? still being done with all the funding cuts?
PhDreams Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Hi! which one?? I have applied to all your schools and more! UC-Irvine... I ended up applying last minute and they apparently have a quick turnaround. I'm nervous... I applied to three UC's in addition to my list.
socanth Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 UC-Irvine... I ended up applying last minute and they apparently have a quick turnaround. I'm nervous... I applied to three UC's in addition to my list. Going by the results search on here, Irvine's mid-February - where do you get two weeks from?
socanth Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Also, while on the topic - anyone have any application figures for Irvine? It seems strange to me that there are relatively few listings for it in the results page when the department's so central in the discipline at the moment.
PhDreams Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Going by the results search on here, Irvine's mid-February - where do you get two weeks from? Ahhhh... I applied to the criminology program there- January 25-ish they announced last year. I applied to a mix of Anthro and interdisciplinary programs.

I applied to a mix of Anthro and interdisciplinary programs. Oh I see! I was hoping you had some insider info! Will go back to trying not to think about it. (As you see from my being on here, it's not really working). Good luck for two weeks' time!

anxiousanthro Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Did anyone else applying to UMich get the email on funding today? Its not entirely clear what we are supposed to do in response to it, since most of the fellowships in the list (or at least the ones I qualify for) require department nomination... Does anyone else have a better idea of what the deal is? Thanks!

kphd Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Hi! UCLA does not show the status of materials received etc... can someone tell me if there is a way to check? Also does anyone know when they are expected to start contacting students? Do they normally conduct interviews?/ Thanks,
Allouette Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I just got an email from UMichigan's anthro grad coordinator urging me to apply for fellowships... Anyone else get this email? I'm thinking it's a neutral/everyone email? I think? Oh, It also mentioned this, if anyone is interested: The application review process has begun and we anticipate releasing decisions to all applicants in mid to late February. (I don't want to waaaaaait that looooong, Michigaaaaaaan)

whirledpeas13 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I didn't receive anything from UMichigan. I applied to Sociocultural... Did you apply to a different sub discipline?
