PolyWonk Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Anyone out there applying for the Public Policy Fellowship this year? What countries?
CyberC1 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I applied to Burma. Based on the lack of responses I'm guessing it wasn't super popular??
GaltDC Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I also applied to Burma. Does anyone know how many people applied the first year?
CyberC1 Posted March 12, 2013 Posted March 12, 2013 Not a clue - but there seemed to be a fair # of fellows. Any word yet? Looked like from last year's thread some action started being taken about a week from now..
SomervilleMichelle Posted March 14, 2013 Posted March 14, 2013 I've also applied to Burma. I haven't heard anything...
carpecc Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 I applied to Burma as well, seems to be a popular country. Heard back from the committee that I've made it to the next round, but will have to be reviewed by the embassy before they tell me if I get the interview.
carpecc Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 I think last year there were 191 applicants and 19 fellows.
smashie Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I made the first cut for Malawi, but no news yet about an interview.
pirate_honey Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I applied to Cote d'Ivoire. Has anyone heard back for that country yet? Seems like the selection committee is focusing on English-speaking countries first. Best of luck to everyone.
carpecc Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Fulbright PP update: Found out today that I got to the interview stage.
smashie Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Congrats! Which country? I'm interviewing for Malawi.
carpecc Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 Congrats! Which country? I'm interviewing for Malawi. Congrats! Malawi would be cool. I'm interviewing for Burma/Myanmar.
smashie Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 People who interviewed - did you find a way to send thank you notes to the interviewers after?
carpecc Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 People who interviewed - did you find a way to send thank you notes to the interviewers after? If you got their name you might be able to track them down on linkedin or their department website. I wouldn't stress about it though.
carpecc Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Just heard today that I've made it past the Interview to the final stage, which is placement in the host government. I'm assuming that they only accept a number of applicants that they definitely have funding for, as opposed to having more than enough applicants and another round of cuts. Does anyone know if this is the case?
smashie Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Congrats! I was actually under the impression that there's still one final cut. I think finalists are very likely to be placed, but my assumption is that the host government has some choice in the final choice. I may be wrong though! - these are just my impressions, based on no info. I'd really like to know which is true.

On the one hand, since they say congrats and tell us about the orientation, I'm inclined to think that they want to place all the candidates at this point. I sure hope so! Likely in this stage it's more organic as they negotiate with the respective governments, which could mean they pick some and not others depending on how excited those governments are to have some foreigners in their offices. I'm tempted to ask, but hey, might as well wait and see how things unfold over the next few weeks.
smashie Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 No news yet. I interviewed a month ago Wednesday, though, so I'm assuming I'll hear something pretty soon.
