  1. Also planning to apply this year. Have been interested in the executive DrPH program at UNC. Curious if others have heard much about the program, especially versus other “entry” or “mid-level” programs?
  2. Not a clue - but there seemed to be a fair # of fellows. Any word yet? Looked like from last year's thread some action started being taken about a week from now..
  3. I applied to Burma. Based on the lack of responses I'm guessing it wasn't super popular??
  4. Also still waiting. No worries - we're all rowing together in the same boat...
  5. I wonder if anyone applied to the joint MPP/MBA program with the business school?
  6. Hmm.. Also in the waiting game edit: I applied later kind of. My application had some parts marked as not received but what submitted ~1/14. It was marked complete after about two weeks when I called them to follow up.....
  7. I wonder what they do with the applications from December until now. Does it just sit around? I mean the business school takes in applications in October and spits them out December. I can't imagine their process being too different?
  8. I haven't heard that there are much differences except that MPA2 students don't have to do a thesis at the end. I talked to someone who went through the MPP program who advised that if I got in I should switch to the MPA2. Not really sure what that indicates... perhaps he was unhappy with the way the curriculum was set up? In any case, I don't really see a downside to checking the box that says "consider me for the MPA2 if eligible", unless you're really dead set on the MPP.
  9. I was wondering... is there a current student that's willing to read over and comment on my pseudo-statement of purpose (essay 3)? I'd certainly appreciate it.
  10. Thanks for the feedback. My essay is structured along those lines, so it feels good that I'm not totally off base
  11. I'm interested in pursuing a joint MPH/MBA degree program because my current work has a lot to do with health administration and health policy. However, I'm not confident that I want to continue down the health path. I think I'd like to explore other careers before a possible return. Will getting an MPH/MBA box me into the health field immediately after graduation? Or do you all think that the MBA is versatile enough to break out if I wanted to, even with an MPH?
  12. Essay #3 of HKS starts off with the following prompt: "…Ask not what your country can do for you--ask what you can do for your country.”– John F. Kennedy, Presidential Inaugural Speech, 20 January 1961In the spirit of President Kennedy's famous exhortation, please tell the HKS Admissions Committee what you can do to change your community or world through your leadership and commitment to public service. Specifically, we are interested to knowHow your background has led you to apply to HKS;How you have engaged in public service; How you have demonstrated your capacity as a leader; How the Kennedy School experience would improve your capacity to contribute to the public good. In light of the prompt, how do you think one should structure the essay? Should one focus more on past accomplishments and work experience, and how it leads up to HKS as well as what he/she intends to do at HKS while skimming lightly on career goals? Or should the focus be less on past experience and more on future goals? Or a 50/50 mix of the two? I'm having trouble figuring out whether to emphasize the past or the future...
