OhioStateStudent Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I submitted several applications today, and in one of them in my SOP I accidentally referred to school x as being school y. Since my application was submitted, there is no way for me to change it through my application. Is there anything that I can do about this? Ablukhov and Clay Made 1 1
Lanie Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 The only thing I think would work is if you called the graduate admissions office, fessed up to the crime and asked if you could send over something to replace the damning document with. If you can't change it online, then I imagine this would be the only way. And I'd do it before it went to the program for review. So, ASAP! Good luck!
languages-etc Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I suggest you contact the department directly (usually there's an administrative assistant who handles these things). Admit you made a mistake and politely ask if there's any way to replace the SOP with a revised one. And double check it again before submitting it!
OhioStateStudent Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 I e-mailed the admissions office, and they asked me to send in the correct copy. Hopefully the correct copy will be with my application!
languages-etc Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Glad you got a good response from them during the holidays. Hope it turns out well!
cyberwulf Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Students get WAY too worked up about this. I see a handful of apps every year with SOPs referring to another department, and it barely even registers. It would be crazy for a department to reject an applicant merely on the basis of an inadvertent name substitution, and most departments aren't at least somewhat rational in their review of applications. asleepawake 1
