celinamumu Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 It has been more than three weeks since they last told me that the decisions will be made Soon. Running out of patience now... And an irrelevant question, which is better at environmental politics and IR?, UW-Seattle or Maryland? thx.
sonnyday Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I was accepted over email in mid-Feb. They may still be making acceptance decisions and contacting admits in waves or they are waitlisting you and waiting for other candidates to drop out.
celinamumu Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Thanks a lot! Really worried about the result. Hope they will make the decision and issue it today. i'm so nervous now.
intapp001 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I was told maybe 2 weeks ago that a few early admits had gone out but they were not close to being done - the rest would be sent out early March (which I would have thought was this week but nothing yet)....
DrRockso Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I haven't heard anything from them one way or the other, yet.

I received the same keep-waiting-patiently message two weeks ago, without mentioning that some offers had been issued. I check UMD's online application system almost every half an hour when I am awake. This is too crazy...
flatcoat Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I got my acceptance mid-February, with funding, but fwiw will be turning it down (got a better offer from Florida and am waiting for the official paperwork to arrive). I'm in environmental politics and IR and chose Maryland because of one specific advisor. There wasn't anyone else besides him that I wanted to work with there. But when I went to visit I saw a bulletin board with recent grad student pubs on it, and a majority were environment-related. I would have been happy to attend there. Can't comment on UW, except my parents both attended there at the same time, but only met years later!

UW also has a professor whose research is similar to the one at UMD. I got a small offer from UW, but would prefer UMD over it. It seems that I either am on the waiting list or out of place now. Sigh...

hondo19 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Just posted this on main board...not seeing the UMD specific thread here.. Botton line: Emailed grad sec, received reply from DGS; they hope to finalize decisions "early next week". For whatever it's worth.
DrRockso Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 According to the Govt Departmental newsletter, 245 applications to UMD this year.... EDIT: FYI, last year they received 266 applications, accepted "just over 15%", and were set to enroll 19 students.....

UMD has a higher percentage of enrollment than all the other schools I apply to. May the result will be announced today.
CAPoliSciPhD Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Anyone else pretty sure they're done? In its past, it's usually just rejections this late in. Not really sure why I'm posting, I wouldn't go this program now anyway... But I hope I'm wrong for all of those still waiting to hear good news from here!

If you look at the results last year, many were accepted at UMD in mid-March and later. Let's hope that they are working on the same timeline this year as last.
slimgyrl99 Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I just received a letter from the graduate school. It was a rejection. :| The letter mentioned that they received many more applications than student spaces available. Best of luck to everyone else.

The pessimist in me says that my rejection letter will arrive shortly. Takes a couple extra days to reach the west coast.

DrRockso Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 Still quiet on the Rockso front. Mail came already, and nothing there....anyone else?
LeftCoast Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Still quiet on the Rockso front. Mail came already, and nothing there....anyone else? No rejection or love from UMD today..
DrRockso Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 No death by snail mail today...how's my potential co-Terp on the Left Coast doing?
LeftCoast Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 No death by snail mail today...how's my potential co-Terp on the Left Coast doing? Just checked Testudo. Not recommended for admission. Not surprising but still disappointing. Best of luck to you.
DrRockso Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 And Testudo sends Rockso down for the count...... Being that my favorite thing about the program was its proximity to the DC punk scene, I guess I shouldn't be too shaken up about it, but fuck, anyway....
aria880 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Where are you going to see the decision? When I sign into my application, I'm clicking on "View ASF" and then on "View Status." All I see is the same thing I've seen for the past four months, which is "Application Complete." Should I be going somewhere else to look?
DrRockso Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Yep. When you go to the ASF page, go to contact info and there will be a "UID" number under your name somewhere. Then, I googled Testudo, went to "graduate admissions", plugged in the UID and the PIN (which is just your birthday) and...BAM!
RaoulDuke Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I just checked my status using the "Testudo Method" and it says pending decision. Get to live in suspense a bit longer.
