applyin&prayin Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Hi, if there are any applicants to the harvard biostats program this season I think it would be helpful for everyone if we update eachother here if/when we receive an interview invite. I believe from talking to people from last application cycle that the interviews should go out sometime around now so let's help each other out!
applyin&prayin Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 thx for whoever posted the result! i guess it's not meant to be for me...
sisyphus1 Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 i've also applied but didn't get an email regarding an interview. guess it's a no... oh well. stay positive!
cyberwulf Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 In previous years, Harvard invited a batch of applicants to their recruiting event (which has already happened this year), and then made some very late offers (to people who were not invited) in the first two weeks of April. So, not getting an invite to the recruiting event doesn't necessarily mean you've been rejected; you could just be on the waitlist.
apnrainn Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Thank you. Do they send out rejections earlier then?
cyberwulf Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Earlier than April? Not necessarily; some people on the waitlist also get rejected late in the game.
apnrainn Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 oh okay... Thank you so much cyberwulf! This means.. be positive...
applyin&prayin Posted February 15, 2013 Author Posted February 15, 2013 harvard seems to have notified admitted students. I'm guessing the rest of us are rejected implicitly
apnrainn Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I saw a few people post on the results regarding Harvard admits
Rob1234 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I got a mail from Harvard regarding an interview...they informed me the interview would take place on 19th of Feb. It seemed from the mail they sent, it would be just an informal chat with one of the faculty members, for around 30-45 mins.
apnrainn Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 When did you hear from them? Is it going to be an on site interview or over skype?
Rob1234 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I heard from Harvard 3-4 days back. They fixed a date for an interview over phone on 19th Feb. Yes, I am an international student.
applyin&prayin Posted February 17, 2013 Author Posted February 17, 2013 that's very weird because they released admis 3/4 days back. I wonder what their game is.
DMX Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 internationals are on a different schedule. rob1234, do you mind sharing your profile (via PM if you want)
apnrainn Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 There is someone who got accepted to Harvard Biostats by Postal mail. While looking through previous years results, I observed that all rejects were postal while the admits were by email. I was just curious to know if admits were also sent by postal mail?

Best of luck on the interview! And do tell us if you hear anything worth sharing for those anxiously waiting.
Shostakovich Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 There is someone who got accepted to Harvard Biostats by Postal mail. While looking through previous years results, I observed that all rejects were postal while the admits were by email. I was just curious to know if admits were also sent by postal mail? Been hearing there's a lot of fake postings recently on the results survey. Highly doubt Harvard would choose just one person to be admitted via postal mail, and admit everyone else via email. I think there were at least two obvious fake postings last month (someone claiming to have UW and JHU Biostat acceptances via postal mail with nonstellar stats and bragging about connections).
applyin&prayin Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 how many students does Harvard biostat interview and accept anyways? wonder if anyone knows the size of the visit day
cyberwulf Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 My understanding is that they typically bring in about 20-25 students for the visit day, accept most of them, and make up any shortfall at the end with a handful of late admits.

Thanks cyberwulf--does this include international students? I think you mentioned before that international students are typically on a different schedule.
cyberwulf Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Yes, international students apart from Canadians don't typically attend the recruiting/interview day. It would appear that there are probably 5-10 international admits in any given year, spread out from January to April.
