nbl Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 He never replied. Maybe I am already rejected. Have you received any reply from your POI?
mitindian Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) nope.i didn't get any. I don't think we will get reply from POI at the final stage of admission decisions. What is happening maybe evaluating 'selected' students and funding. People get a single mail from POI are considered admitted mostly. Unless some sorta interview. Well we are left in blind.let us just wait for website notification :-) Edited February 24, 2013 by mitindian
nbl Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 If they are evaluating selected students then why not just let us know that we are rejected. I don't understand what is the problem
sadfsdfsf Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 If they are evaluating selected students then why not just let us know that we are rejected. I don't understand what is the problem In my opinion that is actually very understandable. Imagine if you were the POI and you had to choose a few students for your own lab, out of ~3000 students`. You will no doubt want to have a think about the choices you have made, and not disgard the student just because he/she has one particular thing you didn't like. It is actually a good thing they don't reject students straight off the bat, and really look at each student carefully, think about them and choose according to their needs. You got to remember MIT is perhaps the only top school that does not look at GRE scores, which in many other schools use as a filter to weed out weak students. I like to think MIT is better than that.
mitindian Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 i too appreciate MIT for not using GRE scores. It's just high school maths and verbal that is not much use in research.
Comrade_S Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 i too appreciate MIT for not using GRE scores. It's just high school maths and verbal that is not much use in research. Actually, this is not the reason why MIT doesnt use GREs. High school math and verbal skills are definitely needed in a research environment(how else would you be prepared to write papers/thesis and do the mathematical calculations, etc). The reason why MIT doesnt use GREs is that, the GRE scores are not an accurate representation of peoples grasp of the material being tested for. The GREs are biased towards people who are good test takers, its been proven that you usually do better if you are good at taking tests and pacing yourself which is agood skill and does have some importance but isnt really important and helpful to MIT in figuring out if youre going to be a perfect fit for their grad program. That being said, im really glad MIT doesnt require GREs. On the other hand, Im really frustrated at this long wait to find out whats the status of our applications.
mitindian Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 i was not saying they're not needed. Some part of verbal is not required and the high school math,i feel, everybody wilbe equipped with. But your insight is really good
mitindian Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Ya the delay in application is draining my hope. I watch MIT EECS ADMIT 2013 Community and it seems like atleast all are admitted. One person posts as " Hey! I was just sent info about which professors I will be meeting with next Friday and was wondering how MIT students go about choosing an advisor. Will these meetings determine who my advisor is, or will I decide that next fall, regardless of who I am meeting with Friday?" just 5 hours ago,it is posted. I wonder whether Graduate office is open on sunday and even then, why are they not saying our admission status :-(
V!nu Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Hi, Has anyone got any mails from MIT?? I find some 3 posts in the "results" page on gradcafe saying that they have been rejected (2 through the website)...but my online application site is still showing the same status.
mitindian Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 no. I too saw the results. Some guy has posted an MIt link but it says access forbidden.
JimmyK4542 Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 The admissions department could be giving professors one last chance to accept students, or something like that.
sadfsdfsf Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Why haven't I been rejected yet? cause its 5am in the morning?
sadfsdfsf Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 @mitindian How are you able to see posts from the MIT EECS graduate admit Facebook group? I thought the group is closed. Also are you an undergrad at MIT?
mitindian Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 nope. I gave join request and the admin added me accidentally. If i were an undergrad,i would have walked straight to the professor's room and would have got ma result
sadfsdfsf Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 you might as well ask someone on that group to post the full admit list from: https://eecslists.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo.cgi/grad-app Since you're not really losing anything Just a thought
mitindian Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 the graduate student association is not related with the admission process they said. They just co ordinate visit days and student and they donot know any info regarding it
nickspoon Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Whoever it is who keeps spamming the survey, can we stop that? It's not a forum, so don't use it for discussion.
warwicker Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I think till date should be more or less rejections already since the visit day is next week.
warwicker Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Mitindian, other then MIT, have you applied to any other grad schools?
