Anyone apply for the Education Policy program at TC? I'm slowly dying inside waiting to hear back...

I did and I am also awaiting the decision.  I agree with what a few others have said in that I have not been impressed with their admission correspondence when compared with say, Vanderbilt and Harvard, both of which have been immediately responsive and helpful throughout the process.  I feel like I sent TC this application back in December and cut off ties with them or something.

I will say that being in NYC for edu policy is probably a great advantage just in terms of the connections you could make to internships and such, but that being said, I am pretty sure I will be going to Vanderbilt unless I get into Harvard, and then I will have a big decision to make.  :)

Had my visit today. I thought the student reps from the HE program were great in person, at least. The Columbia campus is gorgeous, and most of TC is really beautiful. Morningside Heights is really amazing, enough to really tempt me towards TC. The size was a little off-putting for me. There's a ton of students and programs there. I've had a loooong day so I'm not sure what else to say about it. I would definitely consider going, but I don't think it could edge out Penn for me personally.

Well mostly there's just sooo many students/faculty/staff. I don't really want to back to my giant state school experience. I actually am not sure of the exact size of the EP or HE cohorts at TC, but the overall number of students is just huge. I much prefer the smaller programs at Penn, for instance, where I feel like you'd know everyone in your program, and recognize most of the people at the school (600 students vs 5000).

The size of the building is a small factor, too. It's huge and somewhat labyrinthine. It's also older, which makes it very beautiful but it really shows its age in some places.

oh that shudnt trouble me too much(building)....old and creaky and falling apart is not too shabby for me. as for my class size, my concern is that i wont get to know my profs too well and that wont help when i want excellent recommendations later

ccmf, Fraserized, and ASzofer: Have any of you spoken with faculty or students in your respective program, either directly or indirectly (through message boards like this one, etc)? If so, have they been any more forthcoming and/or helpful? I'm just curious what the vibe is like in the other departments.

I went to an open house for the Education Policy and Social Analysis Department back in November where faculty, staff and students in each program spoke with prospective students. I found that the professors were really helpful and frank when answering question and the students seemed excited to be there. It really got me excited about applying. They spoke about their program having a culminating field experience that would have you walk out of Columbia with real hands-on policy experience either by contributing to a research project or working with an outside agency.

As far as speaking to anyone since then, my only interaction has been with the admissions liaison and she has always been helpful and prompt.

I was just admitted to TC with money! Life is great at the moment. Good luck to everyone!!

Congratulations!!! TC is a fantastic school and money will definitely help defray the cost of living in NYC. Yay!

Grrr I want to check mine but it keeps saying I didn't log out of my last session and it won't let me log in even though I closed the browsers and started again like it says.

I really do think at least for the Higher Ed admits that it will be Friday or early next week.  At least I'm trying to tell myself that so I will stop checking like a crazy person.  It just seems like they have been later than all the schools in years past but will let us know before the 15th.  9 more days o' fun from all of these schools I think......

Anyone else think it's ridiculous that you have to fill out a resident fee before finding out if you're in?  I'm gonna take my chances and wait to submit it.

The housing application that requires a $30 fee to be submitted.  I worded that weirdly.  My apologies.  I haven't had enough coffee today.

Congratulations Emvtgse!

I recently put in my application for their Reading Specialist program, but since I applied after the priority deadline, I'll be on the rolling admissions schedule. Another 6-8 weeks for me, but I can't help checking the Next Step site daily.
