Pretty_Penny Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I am talking on the phone tomorrow with a POI who contacted me about admission to the program. She wants to answer any questions I may have. However, I spent about 9 hours interviewing with various faculty and grad students and feel like I have completely exhausted all my questions. I tried to search for this topic on other parts of the forums, but the responses say to find out about mentoring style, research, etc... which I have already done. Anyone have any ideas on different questions to ask after being accepted? (Note: I am still waiting on funding information)
veggiez Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 To be honest, you already got accepted, so asking questions at this point would be more for your benefit than anything else. Personally, I would ask things like "Is there anything I could do this summer to prepare for grad school?" or "When do classes start?" If I got in, I would be concerned with what to expect after I accept the offer, but I think your POI is more interested in answering your questions so that you feel comfortable accepting the offer. If she left you with an offer without volunteering to answer more questions, she might risk losing you because you didn't get enough information about the school. I think the ball is in your court at this point and you should ask anything that might make your decision more clear that you didn't think about until now. coffeekid 1
Jon-Jon Johnson Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 To reemphasize a portion of the above, any questions now should solely be for your benefit as you try to gather any additional information to make your decision. Since you already have the offer, there is no need to dig around for "filler" questions that you ask just for the sake of asking questions (as you sometimes may have encountered during those 9 hour interview days). If you have nothing pressing, you can thank your POI for being available and assure them that you will be in touch if/when any additional questions arise. If you have nothing brilliant, insightful, or pressing right now, it's not like they will rescind the offer
