Is an interview imperative for getting accepted?

I have applied to eight different clinical psychology programs.  I have not heard back from anyone, which I am hoping is good.  However, I have not been asked for an interview yet.  This makes me very nervous.  I am assuming that I would have to interview in order for them to consider me for a spot.  Is this correct or is it possible to just be accepted without an interview?  In addition, is it too late for me to receive an invite for an interview?  At this point, I am just ready to hear something to ease my anxiety.

In most fields it depends on the program, that is, if they do interviews then you will (almost certainly) not get accepted if you weren't interviewed. Do you know if your programs hold interviews? If so, when is this typically done?

I have a friend who is applying to clinical psych programs, and is expecting to hear about possible interviews this week.

From what I understand, clinical psych programs almost always do interviews.

Are there any psych people that can confirm/deny this?

Most universities have a file or web page attached to their admissions site where you can click on the application requirements.  Some will specify on there whether an interview is part of it; some may not specify.  You can always email / call the graduate coordinator for that program to find out if there are interviews, and if they have already contacted all possible candidates.

Yeah, that is what I have been hearing also.  I am just wondering if it is kind of late in the game to be getting them.  Your friend said she was hoping to hear about some possible interviews this week?  That is good to hear.  Maybe they are still contacting people about interviews.  I just need one interview.  I have always done well during job interviews and such.  I just need to get my foot in the door.  I hope they are still sending interview invites out.  Time will tell. -_-
