smartypants14 Posted February 26, 2013 Posted February 26, 2013 hey guys! I was wondering of anyone here had any information on the SLP program in Miami. All I know is that they don't offer a lot of research opportunities. In regards to New York schools, are the SUNY and CUNY schools any good? which program in NY is good and not as competitive and which ones are good and competitive? Thanks!

You are more likely to get in if you're bilingual. Edit: In Spanish. Edited March 1, 2013 by Umami

Idk anything about the Miami school. As for NY Schools, try SUNY Plattsburgh, it's lesser known and not a ton of people apply because they don't advertise it as well. SUNY New Paltz is more competitive, as is Buffalo. But New Paltz also seems to be taking people with lower GRE scores. All the CUNYs are competitive because of the super low tuition. CUNY Lehman requires a lot of prerequisites (you basically have to be CSD undergrad to even apply, and you need a 3.5 gpa or higher). I haven't read too many nice things about Lehman's programs based off the forums and results page, but those are just people's opinions. That's all I know. Good Luck applying.
slpfuture!! Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 I went to FIU for the Certificate program in Speech Pathology. I liked it a lot, they do like bilingual applicants since it's a bilingual program, and also they have great professors as well as not so great ones, like in any other school. They don't have a speech clinic of their own, so students are placed in internships with either professors or in other venues. The good thing is that the professors are very helpful and a lot of them have their own practices. They also don't require the GRE, which is a plus! If you're interested in Miami, you might want to check out Nova, they also have a Speech Path program, and they also don't require the GRE. I don't know as much about them, but people interested in staying in Miami often apply to both Nova and FIU.
