hopenxx Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I have a master degree in statistics but do not have much research experience. Applied 13 schools, no offer, just two rejections.UW, rejectedEmory, rejectedI have not received any response from following schools. Does it mean I am totally hopeless?UT GSBS (biostat)Brown (biostat)Boston( biostat)purdue(stat)vanderbilt (stat)Upenn (biostat)unc (biostat)rutgers (biostat)rochestor (stat)uf (biostat)northwestern (stat)
echlori Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 If you know the school generally sends out offers before or around now and it has been >6 weeks since the application deadline, it might be worth emailing them to ask. I did that yesterday, and got told by one school that they were still processing due to a larger than usual applicant pool this year, was told I was wait-listed by another, and Boston hasn't replied me yet. You might well be on some kind of wait-list or the school might just be slow...
Biostat_Assistant_Prof Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 I also applied to Boston and UNC Biostats... I sent in applications in mid December just before the deadlines and I've yet to hear from either school
hopenxx Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 I may try that, thanksIf you know the school generally sends out offers before or around now and it has been >6 weeks since the application deadline, it might be worth emailing them to ask. hari Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 UPenn biostats seems to be releasing decisions; I received mine yesterday. Hope that helps!
hopenxx Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 I received 7 replies except Boston University. Two more rejections, one is from Upenn and the other one is from Rutgers. Sad!
JZappa Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. If you haven't heard anything then you at the very least haven't been rejected yet which seems to imply you're either still under review or on a wait-list. Either way I think it's not that uncommon to get off a wait-list.
sisyphus1 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I received 7 replies except Boston University. Two more rejections, one is from Upenn and the other one is from Rutgers. Sad! what did brown say?
little blue burry Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I haven't heard back from purdue, brown and unc yet...but I saw some people are posting their offers form those!!! so axious!!!
redevil Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Does anyone get a response from unc biostat? If yes, can you tell me who did you send the email? Thank you very much.
Shostakovich Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Does anyone get a response from unc biostat? If yes, can you tell me who did you send the email? Thank you very much. Try Veronica Stallings, she is in charge of the administrative stuff at the department and usually responds promptly to emails.
Biostat_Assistant_Prof Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 If anyone emails and hears back from UNC for Biostats, I'd certainly like to hear about what was said. In fact, I may send an email this week myself.
biostat_prof Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 UNC has already had their visit weekend for admitted PhD students; I can tell you that much. If you applied for the PhD program and you haven't heard yet, it's probably not looking good at this point. I have no idea what the status is for MS admissions.

These are my thoughts as well and I don't have my hopes up, so I won't be surprised to receive a rejection soon.... However, I still can't help but wonder why, if Ive been rejected, why they've taken so long to notify me (of at least update the website).

Someone I know who applied to UNC last year never heard back from them (!). Good thing said person had other options and UNC wasn't the first choice. Might be worthwhile checking - who knows they might have missed your application! Good luck! Edited March 9, 2013 by clamofee

After hearing nothing again last week, I sent an email yesterday to UNC. I hope to receive a response on Monday.
