liz99 Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Hi all! I have narrowed down my choices to Harvard and LSE. I have no funding from either school and they will cost about the same. I have no idea what to do. My goal is to : 1) work in the int'l dev field (education or other ) at a NGO, international organization, or gov't 2) eventually go for a phd in a few years I am trying to decide between Harvard and LSE. Harvard: Ed.M in International Education Policy 9 months-> 32 Credits No thesis Employment Stat: http://www.gse.harvard.edu/about/administration/careers/documents/2012_Graduate_Report_3Month_Final.pdf LSE: MSc Development Studies 1 year with a thesis Employment Stat: http://www2.lse.ac.uk/intranet/CareersAndVacancies/graduateDestinations/Department/internationalDevelopment.aspx Would appreciate any thoughts, comments, or experiences about either school/programs... Thanks!

NanoTech Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 never heard of LSE. go to Harvard. ssk2, wsc215 and NanoTech 1 2
Edugy Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 I'd go with LSE if you want to get a PhD down the road, it's a well known school for international development, and the thesis would help set you up for a research focus. ZacharyObama, Hanyuye and cunninlynguist 2 1
Hanyuye Posted March 18, 2013 Posted March 18, 2013 LSE, London School of Economics, pretty prestigious. But nothing beats Harvard. Harvard wins hands down.
student12345 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 You shouldn't listen to people who don't know about your field. Ask your professors/advisors which program you should choose.

This is the only appropriate response in this thread. Your goals, as stated, are quite broad. Harvard GSE is intended for students who are, or are planning to be, immersed in the education field with absolute certainty. If you want to leave the door open for international development work and a PhD, the degree at LSE is a superior option. an_internet_person and ZacharyObama 2
