MFA Outside Funding Resources List

"The Bank" Doesn't seem to be too helpful for the Visual Arts, so let's start compiling a list of external grants and fellowships for the visual arts. 

 

Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award

Up to 50K/Year

Need to be nominate by school, deadline is the November before the fall you anticipate attending school.

Dolores Zohrab Liebmann Fund

Must be nominated

Stipend of $18,000 plus tuition/fees. 

Open only to U.S. citizens.

Point Scholarship

Eligibility: LGBTQ

Awards up to 25k annualy on 'last provider' basis (Ie: Fills in the gaps)

Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship

1 Award Annually up to $20,000 in architectural design and history, art and design, etc

1 Award Annually $9,000 in art, architecture, etc

The fellowships are to be used by the recipients toward defraying the expenses of advanced study in America or abroad.

Preference to under 25

Deadline: December before anticipated attendance

Dedalus Foundation

Students in painting or sculpture who are entering their final year in an M.F.A. degree program at a college, university, or art school in the United States may be nominated [by their departments]

Each fellowship carries a stipend of $20,000

that's sad though.  We can't even do anything to try to get any of these since you have to be nominated, plus the others have deadlines that have already passed.

Most accept applications for the second year, and nominations can usually be achieved through talking to your program director or your undergrad. Also, undoubtedly, there are people looking for Fall 2014 and beginning their application processes now, and I wish I had known about some of these. So, I don't think it is pointless to begin a list.

If you are (hoping/maybe) attending a school in the same state you currently live in you may be able to get money from your delegates. Google ' [state] + higher education + financial aid" and it'll usually bring you to the state's site. Also, there are scholarships that come out of delegate and senatorial offices.
