I'm so sorry to hear that SpeechPathLove :(  You have some great options though!

Summer is a bear here, at least you'll get some seasons to enjoy!

As a side note, do they actually put "rejected," on your status?  That sucks!

Hahah no no, actually it was DENIED in bright orange. And it says that was our official notification and no letter will come.

Ew.  :-(  I'm really sorry, I'm sure that wasn't a good feeling.

We'll find out about scholarships in June and are reviewed after you accept the offer of admission!

Ahhh ok!  So we won't know ANYTHING about funding until after we accept?

Yep.  TA-ship apps go out in June, and decisions are made in August.  Kind of unsettling.

Totally!  I wonder if we would find out sooner about any scholarships though?  For instance, I got an out-of-state waiver at UTD, and would be super excited if there was any chance of getting that at UT-Austin!

Yeah it wasn't, but grateful to have other options! And yes I remember those summer heats!  Alright, good luck making decisions everyone!!  Peace :)

Congrats to everyone who got in!!!

Does anyone have any idea the likelihood of getting off the waiting list? Maybe from past years?...I think my position is pretty good but then I start wondering how many people they admitted in the first round versus how many they actually want to attend. I don't know any of these numbers except that the waitlist is 32 people long.

I e-mailed and they told me my position on the wait-list.  I think if they are forthcoming with that information they may tell you how many acceptances were sent out as well (I didn't ask).  I'd imagine if you are at the top of the list it's a good place to be.

I hate that we don't know funding until we accept.  That just puts a damper on the acceptance. :/

I wish graduate programs understood how much funding means to us and how much it impacts our decision to choose them!

Thanks eihpos! I wonder whether we'll find out before April 15th or as we go.... I still haven't quit the habit of checking my email every hour..last week's habit stuck to me :-).

I totally agree!  Makes me so confused about making a decision!

Got accepted to Texas State Last Friday, so backup in place...now keeping my fingers crossed to get off the waitlist at UT. Expecting to be notified April 16 or 17.

I don't know if this helps, but they said they usually go into the waitlist, it just varies as to how far they go down.

I emailed Dana Woolf and she said they will most likely get to 5-10 and possibly further. They accepted 58 and wait listed 32. Rarely do they offer admission to people on the wait list before the 15th, so I'm guessing the 16th or 17th like Jmus said.

When did Dana send you that email?

Just wanted to know how up to date her estimate was. I was kind of hoping it was more recent, and she was basing it on admission responses already returned this year...but April 3rd was a ways back, so I have a feeling she was probably basing that estimate on numbers from past years. Oh well. Thanks for the response!!

Mm, good point. I'm also wondering if they offer each declined spot to someone on the wait list or if they gave more admissions offers than they hope to enroll? Anyone know?

Posted

Vonkitty, your answer is above in this thread. They've admitted 58 and want a class of 35. So they need 23 no's before they move to the waitlist. That number isn't as big as it seems though

Posted

Tons of out-of-state students apply to several top programs with no intention of going. Plus UT doesn't disclose financial aid info til June, which causes a lot of students to decline.

Posted

I though it was 1-for-1... Going to be wringing my hands this whole weekend. I hope you're right about 23 not being that big of a number...

Posted

Dang, seriously? August? Don't know why I had June in my head. Maybe that's when they said apps for TA positions are due. Anyway, can't believe they wait that long. That has to significantly lower the number of students that choose their program. Very confusing
