arnamoy Posted March 21, 2013 Posted March 21, 2013 Hi; I got a PhD admit into ECE department of NCSU, in the area of compilers. I will be completing my Masters in Computing Science from University of Alberta, Canada. I just wanted to know how good the reputation of NCSU is in ECE. Is it a wise decision to go for this PhD after MSc from a reputed university like University of Alberta? After PhD I want to join a research lab/ R&D of a company. Please help me out. I am OK with the research being done there and also the professor, just didn't want to waste my 4 years by doing PhD from a lower ranked university than my Masters. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you;
compiler_guy Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 I haven't heard of NCSU. I think you should go their if you aim to get a job at the industry in the USA. It is probably not that good for an academic position. Try to get into a PhD at a Canadian university.
tarrman Posted March 24, 2013 Posted March 24, 2013 You will be fine if your ultimate goal is to work in a national laboratory or in R&D in industry
arnamoy Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Thanks for the inputs, As compared to NCSU, how will be Indiana University in the same area? Thanks again;
