Guest
it's just funny to look at the survey results and see reams of ph.d applicants and relatively few master's applicants.
Guest
Well I can't speak for everyone but all of the programs I applied to didn't have terminal master's degrees, which means I had to apply to the PhD program. I only have my bachelor's though.

meridionale
i applied to PhD programs because i want to eventually be a prof and the programs i like accept apps for phd not ma. I think that is the general idea. I wondered at first too over the amount of phds, but I guess a lot of programs have a masters to phd step. Guest GuestLoser
I also noticed hardly anyone posts about applying for an M.A .I am currently doing my masters in IR, did my BA in Poli Sci at UCSD. I really wasnt ready after undergrad to dedicate 4-6 years for a Ph.D after my BA, maybe I am immature I dont know. I really found doing my M.A first was very helpful in narrowing my focus and giving me time time to realize what it is I truly wanted to do and would suggest it to people.
