nini312 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I am being paranoid. I just got waitlisted for a program at a private uni, and I worry it's because I applied for aid. Reality is, I have a family member who will be supplementing my aid with money, so I can afford the school no matter what. Does my need for aid affect my waitlist position? What if I could pay for it without aid, would I have been accepted? I could be totally out of my mind by posting this, but I had to throw it out there.
Await Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 I've wondered the same thing and don't know the answer. Same situation as you too.
sisepuede Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 maybe it's completely different for grad school, but i actually have experience with this from my undergrad institution. i was on a few faculty committees and learned through those that because we were officially a "need-blind" school (many claim to be these days), ability to pay had no impact on admissions decisions IN THE FIRST ROUND. however, the order in which they offered people admission off the waitlist was to give first dibs to people who could pay cash for tuition. apparently its a pretty common practice, but i'm sure that can't be the policy everywhere. i'd guess it's the worst case scenario though. :x
Victory Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 If you can get a loan, why in the world would they care?
nini312 Posted March 19, 2009 Author Posted March 19, 2009 So if in the possibility that it did matter, how should someone convey the intention that the applicant would potentially pay for any amount out of their own pocket for any fees not covered by financial aid? Hm?
