I didn't get anything... either AmyPhD--who just made (presumably) her account is trolling, or I really didn't get anything.

me neither if it makes you feel any better?

I'm sorry that I'm choosing such an inopportune time to come out of lurking, but I applied as an ETA to Thailand and I don't have any emails anywhere. So I'm going to say TROLLL, IN THE DUNGEON! (I hope.)

Hello fellow Fulbrighters-in-waiting!  Current DAAD-Stipendiat here, now applying for a research grant to sunny Bulgaria in ethnomusicology/composition.  Anyone wanting to chat re: DAAD vs. Fulbright, Germany, Bulgaria hopefuls, or ethnographic tuning system theory, holla back!  Missouri loves company.

No doubt it's a sore [and egregiously over-discussed] subject, here as elsewhere, but is everyone confident the Fulbright programme will continue to exist in the coming years?  This link has floated around recently in other places: <http://www.savefulbright.org/>.  Wondering if anyone knows what the funding situation for the State Dept is/will be, and how that will affect the future of the Fulbright?  I'm aware it's a matching system with the host country, but everything seems to be in a state of flux as of the present writing (though not any more or less than last year, by my recollection!).  I assume that funding for the 2014/15 cycle ought to be confirmed from last year's budget [true??], so we ought to be in the clear for applications currently under consideration.  Maybe this has already been discussed?  118 pages of text is daunting however....

For folks still waiting, having run this gauntlet before [and I mean "gauntlet" in its most blood-curdling British navy cat-o-nine-tails sense of the word], my advice is to keep busy with other activities.  Besides, worry is fundamentally a misuse of imagination - to worry about a given situation presupposes such a knowledge and control over a given situation that it is in fact a form of hubris. De-emphasize anxiety: you don't know enough to worry.  At the end of a life studying the I Ching, Li Po Yang was asked what he had learned from his dedicated study.  He concluded: "Worry is preposterous."  Go enjoy the springtime sunshine.

love & light to everyone

Hey there! I'm applying to Bulgaria as an ETA. I would love to hear about your project - there are some local Bulgarian inspired musical groups in my area (SF Bay) and my Bulgarian teacher also works for a Bulgarian folk music organization. (She did a research grant there but studied bilingual education among Bulgarian Turks). I'm hoping to teach and to develop creative writing programs for youth, especially Roma youth. I plan on contacting the European Roma Rights Center if I am accepted to also see how I can help out. (My background is an MFA in creative writing and I'm currently in a MA program for international human rights education.)

I've been reading again and again my recommendation email from Fulbright to see if there's anything cryptic in there...When am I finding out arg.

And which sources would these be? Are they actually reliable?

Yes, very reliable.

Is there any other ROK (South Korea) applicants on here lurking (Not ETA)?

I kind of want to read what my professors wrote in my recommendation letter to Fulbright... just to take my mind off of things.

Oh wait nevermind I thought you said " i read what my prof...."

2 of my recommenders gave me an idea of what they said. The other two are mysteries... but hey, it brought me this far haha same for you guys too! But jeez... I really need to stop my daily reading of my application hahaha

just to keep this all in perspective, for anyone applying to grad school at any point, or in grad school but not at the grant season phase. this waiting becomes your life. you have no control over the response dates. it's a dictatorial system. and when you don't get grants... you have to do the whole thing over! waiting is pretty much half the game. you have to cope and not obsess, because it's a huge part of 3rd/4th/5th years of any PhD program (and then you've got writing fellowships, postdocs, and actual jobs...)

I applied for a Research Grant to South Korea and was Recommended. I'm so nervous!! When you say 3/28 at 1600 hours, do you mean Korean time or Eastern Time?

Also, I wonder what exactly do recommenders have to tell Fulbright about themselves...

One of my recommenders told me to write it for her.

Kbui, at least you know what she wrote haha but besides the recommendation, what else do they have to tell Fulbright? Like their contact info or give their CV/resume? Lol i know it doesn't matter now. But I'm still curious about that...

I just got accepted into James Cook University in Australia! Now I just need the moneys to go, haha

By the way, does anybody know how to go about getting the university to waive tuition (if I get a fulbright)?

Congratulations! :-)

I agree. You've already done much of the networking, researching, and soul-searching the application requires. If anything, you'll likely be able to more easily put together an even stronger application. Besides, should you change your mind later it's much easier to stop the process early rather than to decide you want to later and rush through it. I actually almost withdrew my application before the campus interview. I'm glad I couldn't bring myself to do that because now I'm a finalist and at a point where I know I would have regretted not going through with my (2nd) Fulbright application.

That's a good point.

I have asked this question on the forum before, but I'd be interested to hear your  answer: How much of your first application did you keep and how much did you start from scratch on (did you have your letters of rec re-written, etc.)?

Loooonnnggg time lurker, first time poster. I've enjoyed being in the shadows long enough ;). Rooting for you all (Especially you Olioliwoo, dont give up hope as an alternate and its pretty kick ass your already determined enough to apply again).

Anybody else out there for the Philippines? There were a bunch of us this year according to the stats, but I'm the first on the spreadsheet in three years to the Philippines.

My token of contribution to the thread: were in purrrrrgattory!
