arnamoy Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Hello; Recently, I have confusion for choosing a PhD school between NCSU and ETH Zurich. My goal after doing PhD is join a company for a job. But I am an Indian citizen and I have heard that getting a job in Europe is difficult for a non-EU citizen. So my only options are North America (USA/Canada). From that perspective, will NCSU (USA) have an edge over ETH? (will USA consider a PhD from ETH the same way they will treat a PhD from NCSU?) P.S - Both professors are of similar reputation and I ike both of their work. It has all boiled down to job prospects after my PhD, Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks a lot
juilletmercredi Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 All other things told, it is probably easier to get a job in North American with a North American PhD. But it really depends on your field - ETH Zurich may be one of the top programs in your field, and in that case, it may trump the NCSU program.
NerdPirate Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 ETH Zurich is far better for CS than NCSU. Smaller companies in the US may not care about where you got your PhD, but larger and more established companies (especially ones that are multi-national) usually like better reputation schools. Going to an internationally acclaimed school like ETH Zurich will definitely get you noticed, and if you like both professors then I would lean towards ETH Zurich. Even besides industry prospects, the quality and rigor of an education at ETH Zurich would help you get a job as a professor someday if you decided you wanted to go that route. Good luck
