Frankly Idon't know why those universities take so long to tell us if we are accepted or not

Posted

As things stand now, I am! :)

Cool! Are you from BC? I'm wondering if I should consider living on res or rent externally.

I'm waiting on them as well.. I e-mailed and they said that they sent out acceptances and rejections a few weeks ago.  Guessing that means those of us who haven't received anything yet may be on the waitlist?  Fingers crossed!

On the same boat! I emailed them and they told me if you haven't received any updates it means that have been waitlisted and your application is still 'active' and being considered.

Thanks for the info. Kind of reassuring.. I guess?

Does anyone know if they do a ranked waitlist or if we have to just sit in anguish all summer?

Folks from BC/Vancouver, any advise regarding finding a place? Is grad res a good option?

I'm actually from the Toronto area. I only have a handful of friends who live out in BC, so the whole idea of moving out of province is pretty daunting, but exciting nonetheless! Living on res would be ideal but it's way out of my budget. I'm leaning towards off-campus housing, a few miles away from the UBC campus itself and commuting there. Fortunately, UBC has a U-Pass program so the idea of commuting to school doesn't sound too bad!

Where are you leaning toward in the fall?

I know exactly what you mean - I'm from Ottawa, so going all the way to the other side of the country is a bit scary. I'm not sure to be honest. Res would be ideal. But as you said, quite pricey so I'm considering other options...perhaps. not too far from the campus though.

Hi JC1T3,

Still waiting as well... I emailed and phoned and was also told that last week was when we would know. So frustrated with the whole process...

Hi Guys,

I didn't get into UBC MPH but I went to UBC for 5 years and I lived here for most of my life so I guess I could say I know my way around here.  Living in Vancouver is very expensive.  If you want to live by yourself, it costs about $1000 per month even outside campus and it is more expensive on the west side (UBC, Kitsilano, Kerrisdale, Point grey etc.). If you live on the west side, it will take to 10-30 minutes to get to UBC depending on the bus route.  If you share a place with someone, it can cost from $600-$800 a month for a room.  To be honest, living on campus is the best and UBC residences are one of the best out there I think.  The res costs around $650-$850, I believe. UBC itself is like a mini town.  I lived on campus for 4 years and I loved every moment of it. I personally recommend Fraser Hall.  There are more mature students in this building.  It's quite close to the Public Health building and it's right on the bus route, and not too far from the village.  If you decide to rent a place in the east side, it can take around 30 minutes to an hour to bus home. You have to keep in mind that it rains quite a lot in Vancouver, especially during winter time, and it sucks to bus home after a long day.. the bus 99 which goes on broadway is cramped with people and quite smelly during rush hours haha. You would probably have to get rainboots :)  Also, the upass is $30/ month but it's included in your tuition unless you want to exempt out of it.  You have to pick it up from the student union building, or the bookstore every month and it is VERY USEFUL!

If you have any questions about Vancouver, please let me know. I would be happy to answer them!

Anyone going to UAlberta?

I will be going to UAlberta in the Epi concentration. Are you going and if so what concentration?

This is pretty disturbing. Even the dean of the School of Law won't comment on what is happening for fear of being fired. It certainly brings some doubt to the school and program. I also hadn't realized that their medical program is currently suspended.

Yep, I'm attending U of A with a MPH Health Promotion concentration. :)
